The much lesser goal was to broker a deal, and since they had no actual intention of doing so, the other major goal was to infuriate Zeleksky and provide a weak-ass excuse to step aside and let Russia do whatever the hell they want. The meeting was a win/win for Trump, letting Republicans blame Zeleksky and manufacturing a reason to withdraw badly needed help. ---
