Maybe not “expected” as much as “prepared for,” in the sense that he didn’t know which judge would be assigned, but he prepared for the worst. If another judge was assigned, great; but if it was Judge Cannon, he’d be well-prepared to bring the matter before her.

I don’t think the mishandling of documents case is “the big one”. The big one is the solicitation of election tampering case in Georgia state court. Note the word “state”; it’s important because Georgia is essentially a purple state, judging by how it voted in 2020. Not particularly inclined to go either way; in other words, a battleground state. So if a Georgia grand jury indicts Trump, the suggestion that Democrats in general or President Biden in particular is weaponizing the machinery of government to attack him.

Now yeah, that is CA, but the procedure is common.

I can’t emphasize enough how patently ridiculous this sounds.

It is **not** common to request a federal judge to recuse herself from a case.

Especially on the grounds that she once ruled a certain way.

Your cite demonstrates that a procedure is in place. That is beyond dispute.

I am more interested in evidence that it is commonly used and much more importantly that it’s successful.

Agreed. I think this indictment will matter most.

Others willl say January 6 was a bigger Trump sin, and I’m not sure they are mistaken. But in terms of a direct attempt at election stealing, without intermediaries, Georgia stands out.

It’s normal for defendants and their friends to make nasty arguments when good ones are lacking, so you can’t stop those weaponizing charges. As [Carl Sandberg wrote](https://quoteinvestigator.com/2010/07/04/legal-adage/):

> [@](#):

> "If the law is against you, talk about the evidence,” said a battered barrister “If the evidence is against you, talk about the law, and, since you ask me, if the law and the evidence are both against you, then pound on the table and yell like hell”

And the Georgia angle may not help in the way you hope. News reports say that charges are likely to be filed in heavily Democratic Fulton County by DA Fani T. Willis, who happens to be Black:

Trump and his allies has taken the unusual step of announcing remote work days for most of her staff during the first three weeks of August, asking judges in a downtown Atlanta courthouse not to schedule trials for part of that time as she prepares to bring charges in the inquiry.

I did not claim it is commonly _used,_ i meant it is common procedure among the states, every state has some version. I will bet the Feds try it.

It seems the indictment has him more unhinged and dangerous than usual (and, by extension, his followers).

Early this AM in an airport I walked past some TVs spread around the building. All tuned to Fox News.

Over several minutes of seeing brief snippets the top headline of the day was Hunter Biden’s laptop. In fact the only headline of the day was that laptop. No other newsworthy stories had come to their attention.

Michael Popok has an 11 minute video on Meidastouch where he outlines his reasoning (based on the court clerk issuing the assignment being in Miami, not Fort Pierce where Cannon is) for thinking Cannon is acting simply as a magistrate judge for the purposes of the arraignment, and the case will ultimately be assigned to a judge in Miami, or would likely recuse herself.
