Trump's Possible Crimes

Anyone else think the chances of Trump seeing jail time for his many crimes just dramatically increased?

Nope.

Not dramatically, but yes. I think this increases the chance that Biden allows investigations.

I do. I think inciting insurrection is a line too far to ignore.

The federal law against seditious conspiracy can be found in Title 18 of the U.S. Code (which includes treason, rebellion, and similar offenses), specifically 18 U.S.C. § 2384. According to the statutory definition of sedition, it is a crime for two or more people within the jurisdiction of the United States:

  • To conspire to overthrow or destroy by force the government of the United States or to level war against them;
  • To oppose by force the authority of the United States government; to prevent, hinder, or delay by force the execution of any law of the United States; or
  • To take, seize, or possess by force any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof.

So what happened yesterday is a text book definition of sedition. If it’s proven Trump incited this, which should be possible based on his statements and influence, that would make him guilty of sedition. I would say Hawley is also on the hook.

Look how many Republicans continued to object to the electoral votes for Biden.
For. No. Fucking. Reason.

I think there’s a list of Congress critters and Senators that need to be investigated and quite possibly arrested as well. E.g., Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, etc.

There really needs to be a reckoning for this. It is one thing to kill people by giving them bad advice during a global pandemic, but attacking democracy itself cannot be allowed to go unpunished.

I’m quite certain this insurrection took place in part because of the tepid response to the Michigan insurrection. This cannot be allowed to stand; otherwise, it will be an endless cycle of escalating political violence and insurrections until democracy fails.

This is very serious and all Americans, imo, need to take it seriously regardless of their political persuasion. This is the thing that needs to unite America, or there will be no America.

Oh, they had a reason – political theater for the MAGAts. I’ve made a list of all the senators and Arizona’s house delegates. There are too damn many of the latter to lose focus over the other states’ insurrectionists.

It’s kind of like looking at the freshman section of your senior yearbook.

Worst goddamn thing I’ve seen.

Trump is in my book now clearly worse than Nixon, Harding, Jackson & even James useless Buchanan. He is the worst. He should be known forever more as the worst.

I think the Secret Service should have put a bullet through his head as he is clearly the first President to be a traitor to the country and the US Constitution.

I’m beyond belief it has gotten this bad.

C’mon, What_Exit. Stop holding back. Tell us how you really feel.

For those of you who think Trump will avoid jail time, have you not seen the quality of his lawyers???

Republican line today:

Oh, no, you can’t do anything mean to Trump, as now is “a time for healing and unity as one Nation”

What a bunch of complete and utter horseshit coming out of the White House press office now.

Here is a draft of the articles of impeachment.

Does he have to allow them if they are at the state level?

That wouldn’t have anything to do with them losing the trifecta, would it?

We’ll get back to you after we pass the 400 something bills our House passed that McConnell refused to vote on.

Then we’ll censure every one of you for every time you bent or broke a law to carry Trump’s water.

Then we can talk about being friends. No need to rush, we’ll be here in charge for a long time. Maybe you shouldn’t have let Trump and his cronies take over your entire organizational fund-raising operation.*

*They did, too. I got into researching the web of fraud and deceit that is Republican fund-raising, and it’s mind-boggling.

No. Biden would have very little–if any–influence on state charges.

Biden has made it clear that he wants his AG to operate independently, not following the whims of the president. The AG will decide whether or not to prosecute Trump.

Worse: he’s actually blaming the left for the faults of the right.

My advice is always to plan for worst and hope for the best. In this case, I’d say that’s still good advice. This isn’t over.
