Trump's toadies are coming after Wikipedia

You are not even wrong. (no, that does not mean that you are accurate)

Snopes explains how wrong is all that, as the Democratic party is not telling Wikipedia what to do.

The organization also outlined its overarching goal under “Safety and Inclusion:”

Protect against growing external threats.

Defend our people and projects against disinformation and harmful government regulation. Work across the Movement to Provide for the Safety of Volunteers.

In other words, it vowed to implement guidelines to protect its content from creeping disinformation and to keep its volunteers safe from harm. This mission does not fall under a classic DEI agenda.

Further, the posts of Musk and Libs of TikTok betrayed a misunderstanding of the Wikipedia editing process. In reality, Wikipedia editors are volunteers who write or edit articles in full transparency, following an ever-growing set of self-imposed rules. This method of editing gives way to disagreement: Editors correct one another repeatedly, sometimes to the point of starting “edit wars,” a list of which is the topic of one Wikipedia article. The parent organization does not influence the content by imposing an editorial line. Contrary to Musk’s assertion, there is no “editing authority” at Wikipedia.

Of course, reactionaries declaring things like that about Wikipedia, also insist that other places that look for facts are biased against them.

What a coincidence. /s

Incidentally, in that Snopes link, they quote Mike Godwin (of Godwin law fame) saying this:

“Do you suppose Musk has gone on the warpath against Wikipedia because he realized that, unlike the U.S. government, Wikipedia can’t be bought?”

I hope the WikiFoundation quotes our friend here. After all, if Wikipedia is a political organization, it has the highest level of First Amendment protections.

Huh. The Senate actually grew a pair and Martin didn’t have enough votes to be reported out of committee so Trump withdrew his nomination.

This made him the first U.S. attorney for D.C. in at least 50 years to be appointed without experience as a judge or a federal prosecutor.[21] In May 2025, his Senate confirmation appeared unlikely to pass, after Senate Republican Thom Tillis announced his opposition, leaving Martin with too few votes to be reported out of the Judiciary Committee.[22][23] On May 8, 2025, Trump announced that he would withdraw Martin’s nomination,[24][25] and later that day, he announced Martin was to be replaced as the interim appointee by Jeanine Pirro.[26]

Martin was a nightmare on every level.

That doesn’t necessarily mean that wikipedia is safe; Donald is always looking for a hot-button issue that will get lots of press, making him look Tough. (Similar to his attack on Sesame Street via cutting PBS funding.)

That’s a keeper.

There are Wikimedia chapters all over the world. However, it’s the US-based one that controls most of the assets, including a sizeable bank account. It might be difficult to get these out of the country, particularly if the government moves to freeze them.
