You’d probably like something recent, though. There was someone I knew at a different job I had many years ago who was a real ass. He always spoke in a loud, booming, three thousand decibel voice, trying to sound like he was the Voice Of God (which he may have well believed). He had a major bookkeeping role in the organization, so that a lot of numbers passed through him in a way that would affect what the department was doing for a while. He was also thoroughly nasty and dumb as a brick. However, if anyone argued with him, he would spend about 15 minutes chewing them out (in a personal manner) at the top of his already over-the-top voice, then take it to the manager, without ever addressing the actual issue or watching any inputs. Finally, I figured out how to deal with him, because my son turned 3. And it hit me; this was the behavior of a 3 year old. Not too bright, tantrums, won’t listen. And maybe the same behaviors would work. Be firm, but gentle. Don’t yell or escalate. If the 3-year old rants, just stand there quietly and let him finish. Remove him or yourself from the situation, then at the end, quietly and firmly reiterate the original position, and don’t give in to the 3 year old. Surprisingly, it worked, and I had a lot fewer arguments with him, and a lot less stress in my job. (He didn’t change). I always smiled mentally, because I never let on, but always thought of him as the office 3-year old. He was one of the things I did not miss at all when I went to a different job. ---

Hmmm, I only have one regret, and it’s a little involved, but here we go: I got arrested in 2001 at the Summit of the Americas in Quebec City. Civil disobedience stuff. As part of a plan to really gum up the system, I was part of what’s called jail solidarity, meaning I did not give my name nor did I carry any ID on me so they would have to keep me in jail. By gumming up the system in this way, other groups have been able to make it so everyone gets off with just j-walking tickets or what have you. Anyway, over 24 hours after my arrest, I get to call my lawyers. I’m told the lawyers are in the building so I should demand to see them. I do just that, am violently denied my right to see my lawyer, all hell breaks loose when the other people in my cell block find out. I get sent to solitary, and after a night of that, I capitulate and give my name. My charges mysteriously go away. My friend who I got arrested with stayed in, started a hunger strike, but finally everyone capitulates because things ain’t working. I still regret giving my name and leaving my friend in there. ---

Damn, well, hopefully the hamsters won’t eat my post this time (3rd attempt). **Anaamika** , next time you answer a truth question, post the answer in mime; that is, you can describe actions, movements, facial expressions, etc. but not answer the question directly.
