Truthers and conspiracy theorists

Is that the NIST NCSTAR1 report?

psik

Actually the model was built before the collapse. They knew the source of the problem and were in the process of studying how to compensate for it and had some remedies planned. They just didn’t know it could get bad enough to destroy the bridge.

That is part of why the 9/11 collapses not being clearly and conclusively resolved in TWELVE YEARS is so funny. Some people claim that it is resolved but we can’t even get a list of the weights and quantities of each different weight of perimeter wall panel. An engineering magazine from 1970 says the heaviest was 22 tons but what about the rest?

Gregory Urich did a linear interpolation based on the total weight. But he had to make the heaviest 19 tons in order for them to be 2 tons at the top. A linear interpolation with 22 tons at the bottom meant the top ones would have to weigh less than zero. The distribution was not linear. When I pointed this out he called it a Red Herring.

Psikey,

Do you mind answering my question? What’s the endgame for this conspiracy theory? Let’s say you convince most people that there has been a conspiracy, what happens then? What do you think will be the repercussions of this? What will change?

Try clicking the link.

So what you are saying is that models are useless for demonstrating structural failure since the model you use as an example fails to show what actually happened to the full size structure - and yet you complain when nobody does experiments that would not work in demonstrating the collapse.

Yeah…sure.

I had the same thought, and then I remembered that there really is a conspiracy where the majority of Americans participates in lying and fabricating evidence to hide the truth from a minority of its citizens that are designated to be left in the dark.

Santa Claus

No, no, no. See, you could just as well say “That is part of why the vaccines-autism link not being clearly and conclusively resolved in TWENTY YEARS is so funny.” Because quite literally the only place it is not resolved is in the minds of unreasonable cranks and conspiracy theorists. It’s less funny, more tragic. Oh, not the lack of discovery - your statement. We have resolved it. We resolved it a year or so afterwards (with strong corroborating evidence and study after study piling on for years afterwards), and it turned out to be exactly what you would expect: two large planes flew into a building, caused fires which led to the floor collapsing, and this robbed the structure of integrity and caused it to collapse in a way completely consistent with its basic design. You know why nobody but a few cranks are investigating it now? The same reason why the only people investing the vaccine/autism link are the deplorable shrill shitcrickets at Age of Autism.

No, almost every scientific authority that has examined the evidence, as well as the majority of people who examine the issue, claim that it is resolved and find the evidence convincing. Not “Some people”. You still haven’t explained why these precise measurements are necessary to come to the conclusions we have. Why does it matter that we don’t have this exact data? We probably don’t know the exact weight of the people above the 80th floor in the south tower. Wanna try with that one next? What you are demanding is functionally impossible to get, and you haven’t even explained why it’s relevant. The available evidence points strongly and uniformly to the general collapse theory proposed by, well, just about fucking everyone. Why is the exact weight of the perimeter wall panel relevant when it’s clear from looking at what happened that they bowed outward, unable to sustain their own weight after the support of the floors collapsed?

So what would you do with this data if you received it? Do you have a computer simulation ready to go, once given starting values?

Intelligent. Look, friend. Take an empty bowl of your preferred size, place it on whatever mass-measuring device you wish to use. Now get yourself a nifty little time-measuring device. Also get yourself a quantity of sugar (easily available, not too expensive). For your final piece of equipment, get yourself one spoon of whatever size is convenient to you.

Place the empty bowl on, nut under and not beside, and certainly not magically hovering over, the mass-measuring device. Observe the mass reading. Activate your time-measuring device. Just for fun, let’s go with you performing the following actions every ten seconds. Use the spoon to move the sugar from its original container or pile (whichever way you decided to stage said sugar) to the bowl. Ensure you level off the sugar in the spoon while you perform that action. Observe the display on the mass-measuring device. When the next ten-second period expires, repeat those actions.

What you have just done is add the same (or nearly the same) mass to the container on the mass-measuring device. Every ten seconds, the mass increases in a predictable and repeatable sequence.

In short: Mass, in fact, can be a function of time.

It’s a well known factoid that mass goes up during the holiday season.

I blame the Santoid Kringus Collective of Alpha Noel IX.

I dunno…the only time I ever go to Mass is during the holiday season, so it’s obviously the Vatican pulling the strings.

And I think we all know who really runs the Vatican…

And what predictable action is going to do this in a skyscraper supposedly collapsing due to gravity? How is the function in relation to time going to be determined?

Make up some shit up and call it scientific?

We can’t even get a mass in relation to height function and that should have been the same for about 28 years.

psik

How effective would you say your arguments have been the entire time you have been here? Can you name any posters you have swayed to your point of view?

What predictable action? Those floors, along with the rest of the material (furniture, etc.) on said floors, accumulating as they impacted the floors below them once the supporting members gave way.

Do us all a favor here, will you? You obviously don’t have any idea whatsoever what science is. Please stop using the word.

How is that changing mass over time?

psik

If a skyscraper falls in the city, and no one measures its mass, does it make a sound?

It’s in the report - the mass of the falling portion increases over time, as more of the building becomes part of the falling portion.

Umm, yes you could. Have you never heard of Calculus, which lets you calculate the limit, as x approaches zero? A simple demonstration that you don’t know enough math to even realize that your program is utter trash as a model, and thus demonstrates nothing at all, except that you are bad at math, and have zero understanding of Civil Engineering.

And if he can’t figure a work-around for a divide-by-zero error, he’s not much of a programmer, either.
