The above was one of the Google ads at the bottom. Does anyone know how to resize using Picasa??? I can’t figure it out myself.

From the Picasa FAQ: How do I resize my pictures?

Those two sizes are related only in respect to DPI being an embedded number in the eader. I resize my photos to 180dpi for given print size so for a 4x6 I have an image 720x1080 pixels. I think you’ll see little or no detectable difference using a higher resolution image unless you are examining a photo with a loupe. I use Paintshop pro to edit. An extremely good poor man’s photoshop with lots of in depth editing features.

I never use less than highest quality JPG.

In my experience if you do that, you get a larger filesize with no additional quality.

I stick with around 80% most of the time, depending on the image content. In Photoshop’s “Save For Web” which is what I use it for, 50% is all I need, but for printing or other higher quality settings, when I don’t save as BMP, I save as around the number 8 or 9 for a JPEG.

I won’t disagree with that but most people edit in JPG instead of a purely lossless format. Modest compression isn’t significantly different but if a file is repeatededly saved the accumulated compression cycles can make changes and introduce artifacts.

FWIW per what others have said unless a pic is fairly simple detail wise an (initially) complex pic reduced to 7K is going to look pretty awful.

Anybody that sends or links to a picture of more than 100K without a warning to dial-up folks needs to be took out behind the wood shed and read to out of the book.

For email, IM’s and message boards, their ain’t no excuse… IMO

Oh, and you guys that are pointing a guy that is so new to digi pics on and off the puter that he does not understand the 1.5 Meg or Gig or why making one of them a 7K avatar is not a great idea, , well you are just mean. IMO, photo shop level programs are not a nice thing to dump that poor guy into.

IMO, Ifranview™ or Lview™ are much better to start and learn on.
