I’m assigned to lead a fun-question-for-discussion every Friday night’s church fellowship - can’t really call them icebreakers since we’ve all known each other for a while, but basically, it should be about 7-10 minutes of fun chat led by a question. I’m trying to think of things that would be suitably non-boring (none of that “what is your favorite ice cream” yawner stuff) but also can’t go offensive (I would ask “If our fellowship were to produce a movie, who would be suited to play which role?” but don’t want someone then piping up, “Oh yeah, Alice should _totally_ play the villainous bitch!”) Any suitably provoking but harmless ideas? ---

We use similar sorts of questions when we screen potential participants for focus groups – in those, we’re looking for people who give more than two-word answers, and can talk about the “why” behind their answers. A lot of those sorts of questions could work for your purpose; they can include things like: - What is your favorite childhood memory about the holidays (could be used for Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.)? What makes it your favorite? - If you could have dinner with any person, living or dead, who would you choose? And, what would you like to talk about with them over dinner? - What is your favorite TV show (or movie, or song) right now? Why do you like it? - If you could choose any other career or occupation, other than what you are doing right now, what would it be? Why would you select that occupation? ---
