Pygar, the blind angel from _Barbarella_, keeps popping back into my mind, but there was nothing mechanical about him - not even in any of the far-out stylized posters for the movie.

Imagine Pygar with dark hair, torn shoulder with metal joint and we’ve got it!

And so a little nostalgic dream dies an unlamented death. Sigh.

You might be closer than you know.

As I recall, these sort of vaguely sf-y, fantasy-y, heroic-y or bigtits-y posters were turned out by the buttload in the 1970s, by obviously competent but no-name artists. These were the kind you found on the back walls of t-shirt, poster and head shops and given away at carnivals and fairs.

You might want to give [Rowena Morrell](https://www.google.com/search?q=Rowena+Morrill+art&biw=1280&bih=596&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=LwA8VefsCczYsAXnrYHgDA&ved=0CCoQsAQ#imgrc=_) a shot, she did a lot of fantasy book covers way back when.
