Start, settings, choose default apps…

I want to set “Windows Media Player” as my default music player. I click, and that is one of the options. (Along with Groove Music, which is the current default, and IrFanView.) So I click on Windows Media Player…and Groove Music remains the choice.

I want to set Firefox as my default browser. Right now, there isn’t any default set at all (just a big box with a “+” in the middle.) I click that, and the options are Edge, Firefox, Chrome, and I.E. I click Firefox. No good; the empty “+” option remains.

Whut?

(You’d certainly imagine they’d allow me to choose _one of their own programs_ as a default music player!)
