And if you read the fine print, you find that even with the KTN you are subject to search at TSA’s discretion.

Wouldn’t have it any other way. During high alerts, they’ll probably still screen everybody.

Your link provided useful info about the TSA Precheck program, but I didn’t see anything about the ending of random free Precheck, which was called the Managed Inclusion Program. It ended in September, according to these sites:

They may have extended the deadline or perhaps there are still glitches to iron out, but essentially he is correct.

The fact that free TSA Precheck ended in September is incorrect. I wasn’t merely allowed to use the lane, “TSA PRECHK” was stamped on my boarding pass.

It may in fact be ending, but it hadn’t ended as of a few weeks ago. (Actually my travel was on Nov 24, not Dec 1).
