The upshot was Vince got about 45 seconds of free air time to promote the WWXFL. Second on the Taliban. Go easy on Lyndon Larouche. After all, several years ago one plank to his presidential campaign was to house government in outer space and the credit card fraud is, well, everyone does it. ---

Well, in his first interview, Ventura played off the Tailhook scandel as no big deal-- that sexual harassment was perfectly acceptable under those conditions. Since this is my first post, I may as well make it controversial. Hopefully I won’t get run out of here before I post again. Here are the folks that I believe _don’t_ belong on the enemies list: Howard stern - Many of you are more like Howard than you’re willing to admit. Lambasting self-important celebrities, frank discussions of sexuality, raunchy humor. Um, not like I listen to him or anything. WB channel - Hey, Voyager is a good show. Dilbert isn’t bad either. If you’re going to pick on a network, pick on Fox. Marilyn vos Savant - We’re all on the same team here. It’s not as if she’s advocating astrology or any other pseudo-science. Martha Stewart - Don’t blame Martha because she’s perfect and your house or apartment looks like it’s been ransacked. Slim Fast - They never imply loosing weight is easy. The packaging literature explicitly says you should exercise 30 minutes per day and eat “sensibly.” For me it’s a quick breakfast so I can wake up at 8:30 and be at work by 9:00. Unknown who dreamed up the term “infomercial” - The original infomercials tried to make gullible viewers believe that they were “real” talk or science shows. The term “infomercial” makes it pretty clear that you’re watching an extended commercial. Steve Case, Bill Gates - Yes, we all hate successful monolithic American corporations and their leaders. Give me a break. Gates does use unscrupulous business practices but does he in any way promote ignorance? Judge Judy - She is pretty condescending, but only to the litigants who deserve it (unlike her husband who is condescending to everyone). Trey Parker and Matt Stone - I assume you prefer the saccharine Rugrats over South Park? My own pick: Sheriff John Bunnell, the host of almost all of Fox’s cheap, sleazy reality shows. I only pick on him because he’s more visible than some anonymous Fox executive. * * * No sig yet. ---

Bara, not everybody who’s nominated makes the list; some of the people you name aren’t actually OTL, like Parker and Stone. However, almost _any_ network is a worthy enemy as a promoter of ignorance. Just the nightly news is (I think purposely and sensationalistically) misleading enough on a regular basis for that, not to mention various other pandering specials and series - “When Bunnies Attack” or the like. Even if Dilbert is a good show, we can be sure the WB is guilty of _something_. If that seems unfair, well, this _is_ an enemies list (Bum bum BUUUUUMMMMMMM!) Marilyn vos Savant is OTL in a rather tongue-in-cheek way, for her perceived attempt to usurp the title of “world’s smartest human” from Cecil. No enemies list is complete without at least one heretic. I may have been thinking of one of the other diet gangs when I wrote Slim Fast. I’ve heard one advertise, literally “lose weight without diet or exercise”. They weren’t selling liposuction. I suppose they could have meant “without diet _or_ without exercise”, in which case they would have been safe on a technicality. I would have listed the FOX network, but the Simpsons saved them. Plus, I really like that Malcolm in the Middle show so far. Are you people denying that “South Park” promotes ignorance? Have you ever _seen_ the show? It’s PURE IGNORANCE. And, as if the show alone didn’t qualify Mssrs.
