TubaDiva: please explain. For quite a while, I thought your name was short for Tub of Diva. Not a very flattering thing to call yourself (sounds like Tub of Lard) but whatever floats your boat, I guess. One day the light bulb went off and I saw Tuba Diva. So do you play the tuba?

😃 Why Chef, I _love_ government — i.e., government that discharges its moral responsibility to secure the rights of those who have freely and willfully consented to be governed by it. An entity doing something other than that is not really a government at all. It is a tyranny, or an extortion racket, or a collective of incredibly self-important Homo sapiens who hide behind a curtain of armies and pull levers to scare people and get their money.

and, this, well, **this** used to be one of the most vibrant and vivid of all the Straight Dope Message Board Forums (pause while crowd oohs and aahs, flashes from cameras)
But, that, of course, has all changed. Now, it seems to have changed into an 80’s fern bar, a place to flirt while wearing leisure suits, and suck up to the powers that be (sounds of sobbing coming from the crowd)
Why if it weren’t for that over there (pointing to the flaming structure), the “perpetual pit thread generator”, fondly known as **Wildest Bill** , this place would simply be overgrown with self congradulatory ‘flame me’ posts and all.
Ok, on the OP - yeppers, **Tuba** is swell. 😃

Yes, they did. During the agricultural revolution. But a lot’s changed since then. I mean, think Christianity. It started out as the beautiful teachings of a loving man, and now it’s politics on steroids. Natural selection might not mean “survival of the fittest” in biology, but in sociology, the dynamic seems to favor the most ruthless.

Of course I play the tuba! Somewhere around here there’s a picture of Ukelele Ike and myself at TubaChristmas. (We were on a mission from God.)

Tuba ROCKS! ( Hey, look, I just named the new album from the people who brought you Hooked on Classics!) I saw the picture of Tuba and Uke at TubaChristmas, and pointed at Ike and said “Is that you, Tuba?” I still don’t know if she realizes I was joking. None the less, she has always at least pretended to like me. 😉 😛

Well, now you know what happened to that application for Mod. status that “got lost in e-mail,” **Dave**! 😃
Let me add my 10c – I’ve had a number of occasions when e-mail regarding board issues was appropriate, and she has been nothing but gracious, wise, prompt, and generally more devoted to this madhouse than we probably deserve. Kudos, **Tuba**!!!
