It’s a long story, actually only one person out of the six we had invited showed up. Dinner tasted good, but… what a bust! I hope ya’ll had a good day!

Had dinner at my friend’s house (the ex “just friend”). got to play kickball with her grandkids.🙂 Now I’m texting with HockeyLady:). I am thankful for all the Mumpers, Peeps, friends, and neat ladies in my life.

Mama Plant of course always sent me home with leftovers.
As a child, I enjoyed a stuffing her Mother made with saltine crackers and oysters.
I was an unusual child.
Mama Plant decided that if one can of oysters was good, three would be excellent.
My cats wouldn’t eat it. 🙂

Checking in from work.
Been pretty quiet, the station bought a decent spread - not the best but I will never complain about a free meal.
So far the DC metro area has been quiet, and I hope it stays that way. Starting to feel off like I am going to be ill, I really hope I am wrong.
Sorry to hear your folks bailed, Janis. That is not cool at all.
For everyone else who pulled together a meal and/or a gathering congrats. This is by far my favorite holiday. I do wish I could have been with family, but the reality is I have worked 70%+ of the major holidays for the last 25 years and it won’t change soon.
Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving All!

Home, exhausted, and still stuffded! My pies were a big hit, so there’s that. The custard pie was really good - using half-n-half instead of milk seemed to work really well.
We didn’t bring any leftovers home, nor did we have any pie to bring home. Good thing I have a punkin pie in the fridge! 😃
I think I’m going to chill, then snooze early. Happy Digesting, one and all! 😃

To those of us who hold big family get togethers, do you seem to leave with as much food as you brought? Because the leftovers get shared out?We had four pies and two cakes at our dinner, I _came home with_ four smaller slices of pie that I didn’t eat, At the meal I had the cake. I also brought home green bean casserole and layered lettuce salad. I _brought_ to the meal one pie and dinner rolls I made myself.
Kind of like the loaves and fishes miracle in the New Testament.

I tell you the bread pudding was da bomb! There were bowls licked clean!
I am still sick and have no voice other than a squeak or a wheeze but we powered through and had a great day with the family. Now back at the hotel in Jammie’s watching Castle on TNT.

Matzoh I can take, but I really, really don’t like gifilete fish. I’ve been served it at a couple of dinners where the hosts were Orthodox Jewish, and let me tell you, my mother’s training in how to be a good guest\* came in good stead.
\*Take the smallest portion possible, and mess it around on the plate. Let them see you eat a little. Also, you never, never tell a host you don’t care for a dish. _Smile and eat it!_

My niece made quite the spread and all was very yummy. I’m sure there’s leftovers in the fridge somewhere.
One thing that got to me though, I noticed everybody at the table took one or two bites and said how good everything was. If you haven’t tasted everything then how can you say it is. It was and I said so _after_ I tasted everything and even if it wasn’t I’d still say it was because after all she put it all together by herself with a little help from her husband and I sure appreciate that I didn’t have to do a damn thing but drive over and eat. It’s just that if I were the hostess, having everybody tell me how good it is before they even taste it would be a little meaningless.
But maybe I’m just a grump or something?

Hey, how would some hungry folks refuse food from a Nice Jewish Boy?
Matzoh, AKA “The Bread of Affliction”.
Back when I Was Observant, I had a box of matzoh in my office kitchen for Passover.
It lasted for three years, and tasted the same in the third year as the first.
Gifelete fish. The cheapest fish the Good Jewish Housewife can wring from the fishmonger.
It is so nasty that she must chop it up and mix it with seasonings and herbs.
A vile ball of it is still a course of the meal at even Conservative families, along with the almost as vile Matzoh Ball Soup.
We need a shudder smilie.

I had a pretty good day. Lunch here was pretty tasty except for the mashed potatoes. Then I went up to the HFUN house and did it all over again! How does someone screw up mashed potatoes? :smack:My hubs said I made the world’s greatest mashed potatoes today. I used Yukon golds, with a bit of heavy cream, melted butter and black pepper to taste. I let my daughter mash them and I mixed the whole mess up. It was heaven. 😃

Let me preface this by saying that I love the taste of instant mashed potatoes. I might even prefer them to homemade. Also, let me say that I, professionally trained caterer, cannot make homemade mashed potatoes to save my soul. :o
So, we got some garlic and butter instant potatoes from Trader Joes the last time we were there to use for dinner. Well, when they say garlic, boy do they mean it! If you love garlic, then you wouldn’t think there was anything wrong with them, but it was just too much for me.

**Apes** , the cake and the kids and the food all look so cute and delicious!
And **Sticks and Scones** , the hats are great!
We went to MrTao’s sister’s place, and it was just immediate family, so it was very nice, and so much food, lol. Seems nobody knows how to make food for just a few people; no wonder I fit right in. 😃 My cold wild rice shrimp salad went over well, and I will eat more of it tomorrow. I brought home some turkey but that lasted just as long as it took the dog and cats to realize what I had in my hand. 😉
And now we get to break down the computer desks in preparation for moving all this stuff into storage tomorrow. I’ll miss the fridge a little; will miss the washer and dryer a LOT more. Thank goodness it’s only a week!
I hope everyone’s turkey day went well, and I hope everyone’s head colds and incoming flues \ all take a detour to Mars instead.
