Just so you know what sort of thing I might like, here are some of my favorite bands:

- Shriekback
- Sisters of Mercy
- Type O Negative
- Marilyn Manson
- Gene Loves Jezebel
- Nine Inch Nails
- KMFDM

What I’m looking for are Industrial/Goth bands or, generally, bands with a searing vision, intelligent lyrics, and a heavy beat. Any suggestions?

I have a lot of Ministry, but I’ll look into the others. Thanks!

OK, here’s a few ideas, given your techno/industrial/electronica tastes:[ul][li][Skinny Puppy](http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=1SKINNY%7CPUPPY), the grand-daddies of the industrial scene[/li][li][Jim Thirlwell aka FOETUS](http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=1FOETUS). _Nail_ and _Hole_ are hard driving industrial albums with absurdist posturing and a huge variety of musical influences.[/li][li][The Eels](http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=1EELS). The dark, clanging, melodic pop of _Electro-Shock Blues_ is definitely worth checking out.[/li][li][The Beta Band](http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=1THE%7CBETA%7CBAND). _The 3 E.P.s_ is a techno-psychadelic masterpiece.[/li][The Revolting Cocks](http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=1REVOLTING%7CCOCKS). If you like _The Ministry_, check out these guys. Al Jorgensun also played with this band. Their version of Rod Stewart’s _Do You Think I’m Sexy_ blows the original out of the water.[/ul]

Fields of the Nephilum (sp?)

I second Big Black, considered by lots of folks (with the notable exception of Big Black themselves) to be some of the very first “industrial” music.

Also, Big Black frontman Steve Albini’s latest band, Shellac.

Cabaret Voltaire - electronic industrial-type music, circa 1980s. Considered to be one of the founders of the genre. Somewhat quirky, and a lot of talent. It’s the kind of music you’d expect at a rave, but it’s not chirpy and bland.

Einstürzende Neubauten - very esoteric, intellectual industrial. Exceedingly deep and layered material - almost nothing in their lyrics is meaningless, if you’re willing to look. They’ve done almost everything - performed plays, done commissioned work for movies and musicals, put up art installations. Wonderful stuff, leaving a wake of inflence miles long. They’re even better if you speak German, but they put out a lot of stuff in English as well.

Those two should get you through the weekend well enough :).

“Whose your favorite cock?” 🆒

Bauhaus
Joy Division
Tones on Tail
Fields of the Nephilim
Cabaret Voltaire
Einstürzende Neubauten
Skinny Puppy
The Eels

are all bands I’m familiar with and like, more or less. I should mention that I’ve been a punk since “normal” people used to spit on us and that I’ve been into Goth since it was called “Deather”. Yeah, I’m 42 and my hair’s still dyed funny colours (blue-violet, currently). 😃

I’ll check out Big Black, FOETUS, Pitchshifter and Godflesh. Thanks for the suggestion, folks, and keep 'em coming!

i especially reccommend their album _Songs About Fucking_, and track 3 _Bad Penny_. My fave.

YEAH! Another Shriekback fan!

They are coming out with a new CD you know 🙂

As for music you might like… I’m going to promote my band in this case. We have the same musical tastes. [www.ampcast.com/tictok](http://www.ampcast.com/tictok) There are mp3 files there you can download.

No offense here, but if you want to try some _NEW MUSIC_, why don’t you try something that doesn’t sound just like everything else you already have?

Expand your horizons with The Grateful Dead, Jayhawks, Mary Lou Lord, Patti Griffin, Sound Garden, Tool, Robert Cray, Stevie Ray Vaughn and on and on and on…

**Seven** , I’ll check it out. I adore Shriekback!

**gatopescado** , heard 'em all except Mary Lou Lord and Patti Griffin. Tool’s OK and I saw Robert Cray live when they were just starting out. But my tastes run counter to yours, I suspect: I hate hippie/grunge music! No offense to you, either, but I’m looking for new or obscure music, not pop.

BTW: I saw both Bauhaus and Siouxsie on their most recent tours. Siouxsie was wonderful, but Bauhaus sucked rotten eggs. What a disappointment.

Sounds like you might really be able to get into bands like:

Hate Dept.
16VOLT
Unit:187
Gracious Shades --out of print? Search out “Aberkash”, it’s worth it!
Die Krupps
Chemlab
Sister Machine Gun
Razed in Black
…and then there’s more electronic options:

Assemblage 23
Haujobb
VNV Nation (I CANNOT say enough good things about these guys!)
Mesh
Battery
Front Line Assembly
That is all.

**I love VNV Nation.** I went to their Toronto concert last November. Icon Of Coil opened, and it was great. I also like:

Covenant
Rammstein
And One
KMFDM/MDFMK
Wolfsheim
Das Ich
Velvet Acid Christ
Funkervogt
Apoptygma Berserk

A lot of those are more hard electronic than thrash. Sorry- I don’t really listen to much thrash. I second practically everything else mentioned, as well.

Thanks, everyone! I copied down the names of the bands I don’t know and I’ll hunt them up.

**Seven** , I gave some of your sample tracks a listen; I liked. 🙂 I’ll put Tic Tok Men on my list of ‘stuff to order’ when our little financial squeeze eases up in September.
