Turned on cooking stove, came back 2-3 minutes later....

No gas shutoff on my stove, perhaps on a high end one. Probably add another 100 bucks or so for a solenoid.
Maybe the idea is that water heaters and clothes dryers are often in an enclosed area, and not as subject to people observing or smelling. Gas solenoids/ flame sensors work quite well too, hard to get gas going when they fail.

I leave a lot of windows open all the time, and its not uncommon for the wind to sometimes blow out the stovetop, if we have it on low. Its hard to smell when on low, as it dissipates quickly with open windows. Not so when its on high and wont light!!:eek:

I’ve somewhat surprised there arent more “crimes” involving natural gas etc.
Sealing the doors and windows up and turning on some gas…movies certainly use that trope all the time.

I never take a chance with a light switch! I play it safe and use a match.
