So, which do you prefer, a wing tip collar or the standard ones? (I can’t remember the correct term off the top of my head. When I say “standard,” I’m refering to a typical dress shirt type collar – no button-down. I am obviously not very clothing-articulate.) I went shopping for a new tux shirt today, since my favorite one is getting pretty cruddy, and had to go to two stores before I found a wing-tip collar in my size with French cuffs. (Yes, I did get French cuffs. Regular cuffs are just _so_ high school prom. I only get the shirts that **require** studs and cuff links too. I’m not a _complete_ redneck.) After I got the shirt, I thought, is a wing-tip really the style I should be going with, or am I still living in 1988? So, what do y’all think? By the way, **Padeye** , thanks for the Crest toothpaste tip! I’ll give it a try. ---

I used to work in a tux shop, and the wing-tip collars are still pretty much standard issue. Now, the French cuff, that could be what’s making them a bit tricky to find. BTW, cummerbunds should be worn with the pleats facing up. 'Course, if you’re wearing French cuffs, you probably already know that, but for tuxedo novices… ---

wing-tips all the way. (plus, in a pinch I can use my court shirt instead - no pleats, but wing-tips and french cuffs.) ---

Yeah, I agree. Looking around last night I decided that I much prefer the wing-tip collar. I also noticed that about 90% of the men in Choral Union wear wing-tip collars. And yes, **Thea** , I already knew that a cummerbund is worn with the pleats _up_. 😉 I didn’t know how it was spelled though, so thanks for clearing me up on that. Side note: How obvious could the sales people at the Men’s Wearhouse be about the fact the they work on commission? Sheesh! Here’s a sample of the conversation I had with the sales person yesterday. It’s similar to other conversations I’ve had there in the past. Sales person (after handing me my shirt): So, do you need any other accessories? Bow tie? Cummerbund? Me: No thanks. This will do it. Sales person: Studs? Cuff links? Me: No, I have those. Thanks. Sales person: Pants? Jacket? Top hat? Cane? Gloves? Me: I HAVE EVERYTHING I NEED!! JUST GIVE ME THE DAMN SHIRT!!
