**Shows that had to work around an actress’ real life pregnancy (and how they dealt with it)**

1. Friends - Courtney Cox. concealed with a combination of camouflage clothing and camera angles
2. Cheers - Shelley Long. Lots of behind-the-bar shifts, and most notably, she spent an entire episode in the heating vent beneath the floor.
3. Angel - Charisma Carpenter. Her pregnancy was initially hidden, then she got possessed and wore long cloaks, then her character got pregnant in the storyline and she gave birth to Vincent Kartheiser.
4. Spaced - Jessica Stevenson. Concealed with baggy clothing. She’s noticeably thinner (and dresses more revealingly) in the second season.
5. Moonlighting - Cybill Shepherd. Filmed around her absences, which didn’t work, and helped to end the series.
6. Frasier - Jane Leeves. Wrote in a storyline where character Daphne gained lots of weight due to stress eating from relationship with Niles.

**Shows that had to work around a cast member’s death, and how they did it**

1. _NewsRadio_: Phil Hartman - The cast assembles in the news room after attending Bill McNeal’s funeral and read letters he wrote to them in the event of his firing or his death (“since my formidable talent would preclude the former, I’ll have to assume that the latter is true”).

10. Rizzoli & Isles - Lee Thompson Young, who played Barry Frost, committed suicide. On the show, the character died in a car accident (he wasn’t at fault-- IIRC, he was a pedestrian); quite a lot of the following season was given over to the cast, especially Rizzoli, dealing with his loss, instead of encapsulating it into a single episode, and then forgetting about it.

NEXT: Shows with a character who is heard (or just talked about extensively), but not seen (or possibly seen in shadows, and brief glimpses). Characters visible to only one other character don’t count.
