  2. Welcome Back (Theme from “Welcome Back, Kotter”) - John Sebastian
  3. Theme from S.W.A.T.- Rhythm Heritage
  4. Believe It or Not (Theme from “The Greatest American Hero”) - Joey Scarbury
  5. Bonanza - Jay Livingston and Ray Evans
  6. Peter Gunn (Theme by Henry Mancini performed by Ray Anthony charted at #8 in 1959)

  8. Secret Agent Man - Johnny Rivers
  9. Mission: Impossible - Lalo Shifrin
  10. Hill Street Blues - Mike Post

I’m surprised no one mentioned either the “Hawaii Five-O” theme or the “Batman” theme (word and music by Neal Hefti) from the 1960s TV show.

The actual show title was in the right format: Richard Diamond, Private Detective. The excellent radio show starred Dick Powell and was written by Blake Edwards, but I never saw the TV version.

We may not think of Holmes as belonging to the same club as gumshoes like Sam Spade, but a ‘consulting detective’ is just that.

Spenser is only referred to by his surname in the novels, but the television series has him introduce himself as “David Spenser” to a cop sitting at the diner in the fifteenth episode of season 2. Also, Spenser is addressed as “Jim” at the end of Chapter 9 of “The Godwulf Manuscript”.

Trivia: Jamie Farr was a writer and Jodie Foster voiced one of the kids.
