**Unusual casting that worked** 1. Camryn Manheim in _The Pratice_ They weren’t looking for an actor “of size,” so to speak, but she got the chance to read for the role by winning a game of cribbage-- surprise! They liked her, cast her, and she won an Emmy. ---

**Unusual casting that worked** 1. Camryn Manheim in _The Pratice_ 2. Geri Jewell in _Deadwood_ Born with cerebral palsy, she had a career as a comedian, which was quite unusual in itself. When she helped director David Milch suss out the character of Jewel, a disabled barmaid in the old West, he offered her the part and gave her leeway to write her own dialogue and back story. ---

Vince Gilligan really wanted him but AMC execs weren’t swayed until he showed them the episode he directed that featured Cranston as an anti-Semite whose head exploded. ---
