Shows later made into a movie
There was an episode in season 2 or maybe 3 where the story centered around a murder committed by a popular tv show star. One of the jokes/references they threw in was when the star was lamenting how angry fans got when they changed his show’s theme song to a different one.

TV shows with a minority cast member in the lead, but for which their minority status is not an important part of the show. (e.g. Ms Marvel doesn’t count)

I don’t think Cmdr. LaForge is “in the lead” of ST:TNG; certainly an important supporting character, though.

I’ll let it go this time. But when you are dealing with a show that has an ensemble cast like was on ST: TNG or the original ST (or shows like Friends, Barney Miller, MASH, or WKRP in Cincinnati, for that matter), how do you determine who is a ‘lead character’?

I think Picard was clearly the lead character, but it was certainly an ensemble cast.

Ross and Monica are Jewish, but while their parents have a mezzuzah on their front door, and Ross and Monica give each other Chanukah gifts, their Jewishness is the punchline of, IIRC, exactly 1 joke. Also, Rachel is apparently the product of a mixed marriage-- Jewish father and gentile mother (therefore, not Jewish), it never gets mentioned at all, other than the fact that she calls one of her grandmothers “bobbe.”
David Schwimmer is actually Jewish, but neither of the other Friend actors are.
