If you need another example, David Strickland committed suicide during the run of Brooke Shields’ Suddenly Susan, and so his character, Todd, was written out.

PP is probably thinking of Heath Freeman who played recurring character “Howard Epps” who did die in real life

Sorry, I misread that. The character of Lance Sweets died, but not the actor.
