Much too topical, and, therefore, dated.

Is he still America’s dad?
Not everybody thinks that way. In fact, they’re currently showing it (Laugh-In) on late-night TV on one of the cable channels (ME-TV, I think). And since I didn’t get a chance to see it back in the day – we didn’t have an NBC affiliate in rabbit-ear range, and my folks wouldn’t pop for cable TV back then – I’m enjoying it. And I would say that between 75 and 80% of what they do on the show still works, even if some of the jokes are (by now) so old they’re groan-inducing rather than rib-tickling.

As far as I’m concerned, it started to go downhill when they began allowing people to stay on as long as they continued to win instead of the five-time maximum rule (and then perhaps return for the Tournament of Champions). And after Alex Trebek died and they started playing “Musical Hosts”, I just said “Meh…” and tuned in elsewhere.

He’s been replaced with Reginald VelJohnson.

When Cas Anvar’s character got killed off because of his #metoo presence, I couldn’t watch the show anymore. I don’t agree or disagree with the decision. I loved all the books and thought the cast absolutely nailed their roles. It’s just really unfortunate that such a sordid state of affairs led to what I think is an unfixable resolution, so I prefer to cut it off before it was ruined by all the negativity.

The secondary characters were the most interesting, but the whole will they/won’t they was finally overplayed.
