Or blackmailing his rich in-the-closet lovers!

All the “NYC-millionaires-who-suddenly-take-in-orphan-children” are living within their means: Uncle Bill on Family Affair, Mr. Drummond on Different Strokes, and no doubt some others.

Carrie needed money for the down payment. She and Miranda were shoe-shopping, while Carrie was whining about not knowing where her money went. Miranda picked up a pair of Manolos, and said something like, “You have 100 pairs of these at $400 a pop? There’s your down payment.”
Carrie says, “But that’s only $4,000” and Miranda kindly explains, “No, that’s $40,000!” Carrie is horrified.

I recently saw an episode of “Big Spender” where the woman has, at the host’s count, 200 pairs of shoes, at average $300 a pop. He’s says, “That’s $60,000!” and she looks horrified. [It turns out she had about 400 pairs.] Clearly basic math escaped this woman in her compulsive shopping haze. It was a wonder that she was only in debt to $40K.
