TV/movie actors you've seen live on stage.

David Tennant and Jim Broadbent in ‘The Pillowman’
Stephen Rea in ‘Cyrano de Bergerac’. Later had a pub argument with him about said play.
Michael Gambon and Lee Evans in ‘Endgame’.
Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan in ‘Waiting for Godot’.

Tim Curry, David Hyde Pierce and Sara Ramirez in Spamalot.

Harvey Fierstein in Hairspray.

More than I realized, now that I think about it…

**William Petersen **and **Cherry Jones **in Night of the Iguana
**Gary Sandy **in Bleacher Bums
**Lorraine Bracco **in The Graduate
David Schwimmer and **Joey Slotnick **in Our Town
Joey Slotnick again in Animal Crackers

There may be a couple more I’m not recalling right now.

Donny Osmond in Joseph
Jamie and Adam in Mythbusters.

Patrick Stewart and Joshua Jackson in A Life in the Theatre.

John Gordon Sinclair in The Producers

I also had tickets to see Stewart and McKellen in Waiting for Godot but came down with a nasty bronchial infection. It broke my heart to miss that.

Oh, and Eric Idle, Michael Palin, Terry Jones, Terry Gilliam, Carol Cleveland, Neil Innes and (inexplicably) Sanjeev Bhaskar in Not the Messiah (He’s a Very Naughty Boy)

I saw Ed Ames in South Pacific. He really was very good. We had obscured seats, kind of behind a pole, so I was craning my neck all night to see the stage.

Saw Len Cariou and Cloris Leachman as Captain Andy and Parthy in Show Boat at Playhouse Square in Cleveland. Nosebleed seats.

I am seeing Smash’s Megan Hilty in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes on Saturday. She is actually a theater person, but now is probably better-known for her TV show.

Frankly, I do not think she’s right for Lorelei, Lee, but I am going to bend over backwards to be fair to her!

Marilu Henner, Jeff Conway in “Over Here”, a Broadway musical about the Andrews Sisters.

A hundred years ago, actress Peggy Cass in a play at a country club.

Richard Harris in Camelot!

Sandra Dee and Sylvia Sidney in a road show play at the Civic Center.

Anne Miller at the same place, in “Panama Hattie”.

There must be a couple more, can’t remember right now.

John Larouquette, Angela Lansbury, Candace Bergen and Eric McCormick.

And that’s only counting this month.

And looking to the future, I’ve got tickets for September to see:
Jon Beavers, Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer, Thomas Hobson, & Tara Perry in concert.

(Better known as The Fresh Beat Band)

(I have 2 little kids, you see.)

(But I’m oddly excited too)

Debbie Allen played Anita in the only Broadway show I’ve ever seen, West Side Story. This was a few years before Fame.

Sally Kellerman at the Hasty Pudding Club. She was Martha in Who’s afraid of Virginia Wolff. Someone told me that Edward Albee was in the audience that night, but I very much doubt it.

I saw Kaye Ballard, Georgia Engel and Lee Meriwether in Nunsense! during the 20th Anniversary Tour.

Patrick Stewart as narrator of Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale with the San Francisco Symphony. They threw in a couple of Star Trek jokes.

This is a bit obscure, but I recently saw Tony Heald (the director of Hannibal Lecter’s prison hospital) in a Shakespeare production in Oregon.

Jimmy Stewart gave a spiel at my high school in the 60s wearing his military uniform.

I haven’t been to as many live shows as I’d like, (especially not those with big names) but I’ve seen Tim Curry and David Hyde Pierce in Spamalot on Broadway, (Hank Azaria was out for the day) and I’ve seen Bill Cosby doing standup at the Kennedy Center a few years back but that’s about it.

I saw Martin Sheen in a touring production of “The Trouble with Roses”, a drama, back in the 70s. Got his autograph after, because he impressed me so much. He was very grateful and unassuming.
Saw Betty Grable in a touring company of “Hello Dolly”. also saw Helen Hayes, in a show called “The Circle”.
[gosh I’m old]

I am so jealous of some of you for the performances you’ve witnessed!

I know there must have been more because I have seen a lot of shows but the one I remember because it was a real thrill was Matthew Brodrick and Nathan Lane in The Producers.

I noticed some people are listing comedians they saw live: I saw a ton of those: The two that did a lot of acting would be Seinfeld and George Carlin.

I saw Michael Moriarty in a production of Richard III back in 1980. He was not great in the lead role.

Angela Lansbury in Sweeney Todd.

Dustin Hoffman in The Merchant of Venice.

Tom Hulce in Hamlet.

Captain Picard’s one man show version of A Christmas Carol.

Stacy Keach in Richard III.

Avery Brooks in Othello.

Paul Winfield in Merry Wives of Windsor, although it was a free outdoor play and I didn’t hear much from my vantage point.

Oh, yeah - Derek Jacobi in Breaking the Code.
