Well, now there are some flashbacks to childhood. Typing of which, while in university the theme song to the Waltons once woke me up in the middle of the night when I’d fallen asleep with the tv.
I’ll add to the list:
The theme to St. Elsewhere
The Stompin’ Tom Connors theme for Marketplace, sadly no longer used:
“Oh, yes we are the people running in the race,
Buying up the bargains in the old marketplace,
Another sale on something, we’ll buy it while it’s hot
And save a lot of money spending money we don’t got.”
It’s from “Animal Crackers,” and you can hear it in its original context here. (Takes a little while to get into it). And a damned catchy tune it is, too!
The opening music for the original Jonny Quest show. It was just about my favorite when I was a kid, and I still think it rocks – the adrenalized percussion and frantic horns, spiced up with incidental gunfire and pterodactyl shrieks ,make for a thrilling two-minute instrumental.
I always thought The Sopranos and Oz had pretty damned cool opening theme music, too.
