I know almost nothing about the man, but his last name seems designed by a novelist to use in sleazy pastor type character, practically a mix of “swagger” (or even “swag”) and “braggart”. ---

Oh he had swagger all right back in the ¿Golden? Age of US Televangelists in the late 70s thru 80s. ---

There was a comic strip at the time that referred to him as Jimmy Swagger, and another scandal-plagued couple as Jim and Tammy Faye Bankroll. Before the scandal, I was in a thrift store and ran into someone I knew, who was looking through the vinyl records. He picked up an old Jimmy Swaggart album and said, “I wonder what it says if you play it backwards.” ---
