> Most people remember the “mirror scene” between Lucille Ball and Harpo Marx from [I Love Lucy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79EnDc-Ucv8).
>
> I wonder how many people realize that it’s a re-creation of a similar scene done by Groucho and Harpo in [Duck Soup](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKTT-sy0aLg). That’s Harpo, disguised as Groucho, “inside” the mirror.

I would wager that there are more people who know the original but don’t know the Lucy than the other way around.

> There was an episode of _Magnum, P.I._ in which a retired detective is reunited with an old girlfriend who just got out of prison. The names were changed, but it was pretty obviously an homage to _The Maltese Falcon_.

> Elisha Cook, Jr., who played Wilmer in TMF, had a recurring role in M,PI as a mobster named “Icepick”. I don’t remember whether or not he appeared in that episode.

I can only find [one episode which features a retired detective](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0639674/reference) and “Icepick” isn’t in it.

The _Star Trek_ episode “Balance of Terror” takes an entire plotline from the movie T_he Enemy Below_, including the zig zag chase between the hidden and visible ships, the honorable opponents who deeply respect each other, the first mate’s friendship, and the bluff that sets up the final battle.

Gah, I cringed when he said that. It was really forced and made no sense. I mean, I know it’s a lyric but IIRC, he said it very straight faced like it was a serious statement as to why he was late.

There have been numerous scenes on The Simpsons that have been based on movie scenes. I’m not going to list them all here. Some of them are mentioned here:

Movie References in The Simpsons

Also many of the segments on the Simpsons’ Tree House of Horror Halloween episodes have been parodies of various horror films.

You beat me to it, but I was coming into this thread to say “Isn’t this, like, 60% of Simpsons scenes?”
