Thanks for the replies, everyone.

Well I did mean to exclude animated tv series. I just forgot to mention that in the OP. I also forgot to say that I meant only shows based on theatrical movies, not tv movies.

But obviously I underestimated the number of tv shows that were based on movies. Even if the unsuccessful shows (say those that didn’t make it to a second season), it seems like a lot of them.

That should be

Even if the unsuccessful shows (say those that didn’t make it to a second season) **are excluded** , it seems like a lot of them.

The Blue Lamp -\> Dixon Of Dock Green (UK movie spawed early TV police show. Even though the title character died in the movie)
