TV Shows Only You Remember

That reminds me of D.C. Follies, which featured Fred Willard as a bartender, and the patrons were various politicians portrayed by the Kroft Puppets. Could that be what you were thinking of?

One of the early Simpsons Hallowe’en specials had a trip through the graveyard in the beginning credits and some headstones had Capitol Critters, Fish Police and Family Dog on them. I never watched any of them.

Maybe. Or maybe I’m just remembering Rizzo the Rat from The Muppets and conflating him with Capitol Critters. Or maybe my brain was combining Rizzo the Rat with D.C. Follies.

I remember once when the kids in the class were trying to help him meet and court a teacher he liked. One suggested he shave his name in his hair (a youth fashion of the time) explaining to the balding Otis Drexell, "You’ve already got the “O”).

I remember it because I liked the sea-chanty recording of the original Sinbad cartoon’s theme song, much than this more contemporary Sinbad Jr. version.

What was that terrible show where it was the Simpsons, if they were dinosaurs? The Simpsons commented on them in one episode.

It was called Dinosaurs, of course. I actually liked it, but I was like 12 years old when it aired.

It’s on Disney+ if you want to see how wrong you are to call it “terrible”.

Thanks, but I’d rather my memory of it remain vague.

Drexel’s Class also featured a young Brittany Murphy.

Family Dog started out as an episode of Amazing Stories (and I remember thinking it was hilarious at the time. Not sure if that still stands). I remember reading about all these shows being developed after the Simpsons aired but somehow I missed these when they actually aired.

OK, I was able to find the Family Dog episode online and I found it to still be funny. I didn’t realize that this was written and directed by Brad Bird. You can tell.

What about Get a Life? I think it did more for REM’s career than it did for Chris Elliott’s.

I remembered that it co-starred Doug Barr, fresh from his stint on The Fall Guy, as his bodyguard.

Does anyone else remember The New Perry Mason starring Monte Markham?

How about Probe, one season, (1988) created by Issac Asimov?

Was that the one starring Parker Stevenson?

Here’s one I have only vague memories of:

Probably late '80s. I think there was a pilot movie that lead to a short-lived series. In the Old West, a sheriff’s posse chases a gang of outlaws, who had just stolen a strong box of gold coins, into a box canyon. There’s a weird lighting storm that knocks everyone out, and they awaken in the modern day, where that box canyon is now on the outskirts of L.A. The posse and the outlaws quickly settle their differences to join forces in this weird new world. They sell their mint condition “antique” gold coins, buy a ranch, and for some reason become vigilantes, dispensing Old West justice in contemporary L.A. There was also a female reporter that acted as their guide to the modern world; I don’t remember if she was in on their origins or just thought they were rich and really eccentric. I think there may also have been some romantic tension/a love triangle between her and the sheriff and the outlaw boss.

It was called Outlaws and ran for one season (1986-87), and it starred Rod Taylor, Richard Roundtree and Charles Napier.

Yep, that’s it! Thanks.

With Brett Sommers of Match Game fame as Della Street? It failed miserably, as I recall.
