TV Shows that you have quit watching

I realized yesterday that I’m finally tired of Deadliest Crabs.

.

Spartacus - I wanted more Rome, not physical fighting, so I opted out.

Smash, L&O: SVU, Criminal Minds - Because CTV is a bunch of dicks and took them off the main channel and put them on CTV Two, which they don’t actually air across the entire country.

Bones - liked the first seasons, because they were more about the, um, ‘science’ and stuff. It made it feel a little different from NCIS, CSI, etc. which I don’t care for. Then Bones started to feel more like CSI to me, and I didn’t like it any more.

South Park - It just quit feeling fresh. Still funny at times, but eh.

I have all this season of House on the DVR, but haven’t been motivated to watch. Same with Royal Pains. Didn’t DVR *Hell’s Kitchen *and didn’t miss it. Dropped New Girl after three eps - I just didn’t see the charm. Still watching Glee, but I’m ready for it to end.

StG

It’s not so much that I love Ann Curry on the Today Show, I just don’t like Thing A or Thing B - can’t think of their names, one is Natalie something - who might take her place; they’re so generic. But, change we must, I suppose…I did watch Oprah’s whole network for a bit, but frankly lost interest real fast. I watched Rosie O’Donnell’s show (and who thought that was such a good idea?) with my mom a couple of times, but frankly both of us lost interest in that!

Once Upon a Time
Touch
CSI:NY

Its gotten better, FWIW.

I dropped the Simpsons long ago enough that there’s no probably more episodes I haven’t seen then those that I have.

I dropped the later two Star Trek series after a season or two.

I dropped the new BSG after threeish seasons, it started out strong, but wrapping in all the mythological elements plus the fact that it was becoming increasingly obvious that whatever “the plan” was, it wasn’t going to make any sense turned me off.

I left X-Files when Mulder did.

I think thats about it. I don’t watch many dramas, but when I do, its usually after they’ve aired so popular opinion lets me know if they stay strong through to the end or not, so I don’t find myself dropping many series.

House, Burn Notice, once Michael became a spy again and Law and Order: SVU, once the writers decided that every episode must have a twist.

I gave up watching some these regularly years ago, but they are still on TV now.

  1. Major League Baseball - the 1994 Strike did me in
  2. NFL Football - Still watch the SuperBowl if I am at a party, still watch College F-Ball
  3. NCAA B-Ball - Watched a little of the tournament, not a whole lot, actually saw more of the womens tournament than the men
  4. American Idol, Bring back Simon
  5. Two and a Half Men, better with Charlie Sheen

Chuck - I was awestruck by how bad the final ten minutes of the season four finale were and don’t want my memories of the earlier episodes tarnished.

Burn Notice I gave up a while after Jesse became part of the team. I could just never get over how stupid the whole ‘Michael burned someone’ plot was and they kept bringing it up again and again.

Jericho is an older show, but we only watched it recently and gave up after about episode 10.

Eureka I gave up on somewhere in season 3, then watched some of season 4, then could just never get back into it. (With UK air times, that’s within the past year or so). It’s partly because the woman who plays Alison is such a bad actress that she sucks all the humour or drama out of every situation she’s in - her eyes always have this disconnected look, as if she’s mentally writing shopping lists while waiting for this scene to be over so she can get to doing more important stuff.

Family Guy I’ve watched until a couple of years ago.

South Park, The Apprentice, and The Bachelor(ette) grew old a long time ago.

I stopped watching The Simpsons, but actually I’ve started watching it again, now and then.

The only show I ever watched for years, then quit was ER. I don’t even know how long it ran after I stopped.

I mean, I didn’t even give up on *Lost. *At least I’m not the only one pissed about that.

I’m sticking it out to the bitter end with *House. *I watched this week’s episode, but don’t even remember it.

Bones- used to be a great show, but the whole baby thing is boring and lame. There is no more tension between Temperance and Seely, as usually happens when characters like them get together. Monday’s episode looked like a rerun of Lucy and Ricky Ricardo.

Modern Family- I like the Anglo/Hispanic couple and the gay couple, but the hetero-Anglo couple is too stupid to be allowed to live. I watched a few minutes of Claire’s debate and was appalled. The actor who plays Phil Dunphy is THE most unattractive man on television playing the most unattractive male character on television. Isn’t he also a writer or director of the program, too?

NCIS- another one that has woefully slipped. Maybe Jethro will perk up when he starts eating Activia three times a day? Nah.

Mythbusters, only because it never seems to be on anymore.

Recent shows I have given up after a promising start which quickly turned sour:

Once Upon A Time
Walking Dead

Popular shows I only watched two episodes of and just decided were too dark:

Person of Interest
Game of Thrones
Alcatraz
Homeland
Justified
Haven*

As I grow older, and my tastes stay the same while the rest of the TV-watching world evolves into something else, I have learned that life’s too short for me to waste it on TV I am not being entertained by, no matter how many people rave about it being the best show ever.

*Haven isn’t too dark, it was too annoyingly lame

Oh yeah, the Simpsons. I used to watch it every week and would make a point of being home for it, but that was 20 years ago.

Not many shows I watch, since I do it online and it takes more effort.

Bones - after season three – liked it before; hated it after.
Fringe – loved it at first; got tired of tracking universes.
Castle - on the verge of quitting it. Starting to dislike Castle’s whiny, narcissistic character. It works when the show is a comedy, but not when it’s a drama.
NCIS - on the verge of quitting. The urgency and compelling story-telling have leaked away.

Eons ago when it was new, I loved Law & Order. No more, and not in any of its various versions, especially SVU. My husband still watches all the incarnations so I’m likely to hear parts of episodes, and they just depress me.

Criminal Minds was OK in the beginning, but it’s just too unpalatable any more.

*Bones *pissed me off right from the start, so I don’t think that counts.

The Closer was a don’t-miss at one time, but Brenda is just annoying now.

Even *NCIS *no longer appeals, despite the eye candy that is Gibbs…

And I don’t know if it’s still on, but we watched *Weeds *on Netflix, and right about the time they burned the development down, I was already bored with it and we quit watching.

In fact, if I didn’t knit, I don’t think I’d be watching TV at all any longer.

You sound like me; Once I’ve formed an attachement to a show I have a hard time giving it up. My wife quit on both ER and NYPD Blue several seasons before they ended, but I kept plugging away. I can’t honestly tell her she missed anything worthwhile. Both shows were shells of their former selves by the end, but somehow I felt like I owed it to them to see it through to the finish, or something. Sounds strange, I know, but I guess there are worse pathologies I could be afflicted with.

I missed a lot of shows last year when my mother’s Dementia escalated to her hallucinating that what was on the TV was happening in our house. Some shows I was able to watch on repeats late at night.

I lost track of Bones during that time and haven’t bothered to go back to it.
I stopped watching House because the “American” accent was grating on me
Lost - didn’t watch beyond Season 1
Heroes - ditto
Stargate Universe - gave up after 5 or 6 episodes
Smallville - couldn’t find it in the schedules, so gave up
