I held back on sharing this one, because, it shows my intense geekiness. A childhood favorite of mine only played the following theme with lyrics during the closing of the pilot/movie, or at least, that’s the only time I heard it during syndication. I half remembered parts of it, and of course remembered it fondly. I still enjoy the theme (cheesy as it is), but the lyrical glurge… [shakes head in shame] [![](https://img.youtube.com/vi/xQv7llrZgkM/hqdefault.jpg "SUSPENSION : THEME FROM BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25TH CENTURY WITH LYRICS") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQv7llrZgkM) ( this link has the spoken intro, followed by the theme which normally played at the end, with the lyrics so that you might shame me) ---

I love that song, and I am not ashamed at all. I will admit, the tenor-verging-on-soprano occasionally sounds a bit whiny. I wish they had gotten a baritone to sing it. ---

Which leads me to ask, how many other theme songs were sung in the first person? ---

First person? WKRP. I assume it’s supposed to be about Andy. He started out as the main character. “Baby if you’ve ever wondered, wondered whatever became of me.” Not sure who he is singing to, though. Not the “went to the bomma sham, pot a hill a bit uh huh” closing theme. ---

I wasn’t much of a fan of this show, but I will ALWAYS be a fan of the theme…I personally can’t think of a classier, more cosmopolitan theme than this one❣️ [![](https://img.youtube.com/vi/BgLTzkAYFJ8/maxresdefault.jpg "Classic TV Theme: Days and Nights of Molly Dodd (Stereo)") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgLTzkAYFJ8) ---

> [@markn\_1](#): > > [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Favorite_Martian) says it was an Electro-Theramin, not a theramin. It also says that it was performed by Paul Tanner, a member of Glenn Miller’s band, and that the theme song “was influential in Brian Wilson’s engagement of Tanner in 1965 and 1966 to work with the Beach Boys on their landmark hit, _Good Vibrations_”. That’s an interesting bit of trivia. That instrument is also known as the “tannerin” for obvious reasons. It’s kind of like a theramin set up as a sort of keyboard (non-functional, just as a pitch reference) with a slider. A picture would explain better: [![](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/bhlQ27fbQ30/maxresdefault.jpg) ](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/bhlQ27fbQ30/maxresdefault.jpg) [Previous page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/tv-theme-song-questions/1017510.md?page=5) [Next page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/tv-theme-song-questions/1017510.md?page=7)
