" Hostess is betting on a sweet comeback for Twinkies when they return to shelves next month. The company that went bankrupt after an acrimonious fight with its unionized workers last year is back up and running under new owners and a leaner structure. It says it plans to have Twinkies and other snack cakes back on shelves starting July 15… Hostess will also now deliver to warehouses that supply retailers, rather than delivering directly to stores, said Rich Seban, the president of Hostess who previously served as chief operating officer. I’m still disappointed that Bimbo could not get the brand. We’ll never see Bimbo Ho Hos and the Bimbo Twinkies. 😃 ---

I wonder how successful the Twinkie reintroduction will be. Yes the brand has fantastic name recognition, but in the meantime Little Debbie/Freshleys/store brands have taken their shelf space. I wouldn’t be suprised if, short of giving grocery stores big money, that shelf space stays with the other brands. ---

To hell with them. Management screwed the employees who had made huge consessions to keep their jobs, looted the company, bankrupted it, left with huge piles of cash, and relaunched it with the Union driven out. ---

My husband, an OTR truck driver, hauled an entire trailer full of Twinkies, from a factory in Emporia, Kansas, to somewhere in the Chicago area. In April. Apparently, they still keep well. 😉 ---

No, that company no longer exists. The company now called “Hostess” is a completely different entity which purchased the name and the product line from said defunct enterprise. ---

I bet their is going internet outrage that the new twinkies do not taste as good as ‘original recipe’ twinkies. There will be twitter and facebook campaigns and probably a thread on the SDMB. I am also predicting it will be hot in Phoenix on July 4th and I will see at least one Geico and Progressive Insurance commercial before the end of the week. ---

I haven’t eaten a Twinkie (or any other Hostess product) in, like, forever, but I may have to on general principle. It just seems like the thing to do. ---
