You misunderstand oxytocin. It’s not specific to maternity. And guys have it, too.
Which goes back to my original point, you’re treating this chemical reaction, oxytocin and maternity, like it’s some sort of unique thing, and failing to acknowledge that everything we think and do, ( yoga, watching Fox News, posting on the SDMB) is affected by this same type of chemical feedback loop.
Why do you keep trying to discuss this with that poster? He obviously got a great deal at the shovel sale and will use them until they’re all broken.

You point out that the biological processes I had in mind are not unique to pregnancy and birth. I admit so. But you aren’t coming full circle to counter my point. I say the biological processes associated with pregnancy and birth, even though not unique to pregnancy and birth, still encourage maternal protective behavior.
Though you haven’t pointed it out, it is worth saying that women can demonstrate maternal protective behavior towards adopted children. This does not detract from my argument, in the same way that nothing you have written detracts from my argument.

This is the pit dude.
It is the place for outrage be it recreational or non-recreational . It is the place of howling at the moon at the injustice of the world. It is the place to demand justice even if we can’t articulate exactly what that justice would be, we still know injustice when we see it. It is the place for expressing t and the sorrow at what some have had to endure at the hands of a pig-headed patriarchy minority who decided that women are too hormonal or emotional to be trusted with the guardianship of their own bodies. It is the place to express our terror at what they may decide in the future.
If we wanted to attract flies with honey, logic and reason we would have posted in Great Debates of P&E. But here we’re opting for the bug zapper.

I’m late to the party, but being pregnant is HARD it is not for the faint of heart or a child who should be going to dances, doing homework, etc.
These judges have sentenced this child to 9 months of a physical, psychological, emotional, and hormonal roller coaster. I did it 3 times, I loved being pregnant, but it is not easy and takes physical and emotional maturity. That doesn’t even take labor and delivery into consideration. Then motherhood. 
This whole thing is ridiculous. These laws in, mho, have more to do with the above mentioned punishment than “maturity”.
