Do people actually have a _choice_ to participate in a lawsuit against them? (rhetorical question follows) If someone sues me, can I just say “Hmmmm. No, I don’t think I will participate. Thanks anyway”, and then everything just goes away? This reminds me of the videos where a drunk driver is pulled over, and they refuse to cooperate or even get out of the car until they are eventually dragged out and arrested. Then they are all confused: “Why are you doing this to me? I dint do nuthin’!” ---

A civil suit is a bit less likely to get you dragged out of your car at 3 in the morning. But, you don’t have to show up to it, you don’t have to cooperate. It just means that you end up with a default judgement against you. ---
