These are really specific, and I didn’t see that they’d been asked for. Not too long ago, my work computer completely crashed, and I had to use a restore disk to get it back up. Fine, but it came back missing two things. One was Microsoft Photo Editor, meaning that I have no way to edit my photos anymore. Photos open in IE! The other was the drivers to the OfficeJet printer/fax machine/scanner that sits next to me. The printer has been in its job much longer than I’ve been in mine, and no one knows where the original disks or software is. So while it still faxes, you can no longer scan or print because the computer doesn’t recognize it. Where do I find these things? My computer says Photo Editor is on the Win 98 CD. I’ve got the Win 98 CD, but every time I load it up, it says “the version of Windows you are trying to install is older than the one you have installed”. But I have Win98, so it must be talking about service packs??? And it shuts down the setup. Iv’e tried to browse the cd, but there’s nothing that leaps out at me. Any help? Thanks. ---

For the printer drivers, you should be able to go to the website of the manufacturer. Search on the specific model number and they will probably have the most recent drivers available. ---

And for photo editing, I would hit [download.com](http://download.com) and try one of of [these](http://www.download.com/sort/3120-2001-0-1-4.html?qt=edit+photos&ca=2001). ---

Do you have an active connection to the Internet on that computer? Download one of a myriad of free programs for photo editing. But I have Win98, so it must be talking about service packs??? I strongly suspect you have Win 98 Second Edition installed but try to use a CD for the first edition of Win 98. Well, I never cared for Photo Editor anyway. ---

There are three (3) diffferent W98 CD’s. 1. Win 98 (original) 2. Win 98 Second Edition, a stand alone version. 3. Win 98 Second Edition, Upgrade. (from Win 98) You must use the correct CD to reload Win 98. ---

- - - If the original install CD had the photo editor on it, then you just have to explore that CD manually until you find the folder that has the install files for that program, and then you can manually start the Photo Editor installer program. Insert the CD, stop+close the automatic Windows installer thing that comes up, and then start Windows Explorer, it is named explorer.exe and in the system folder I thinks–and this way you can look around on the CD without being stopped by the thing you are now. Particularly try looking at any .txt files you find, one of them will very likely be a README about the program you seek. ??? - Well I was going to look on mine just to see, but the search function on WinXP doesn’t work right [suddenly?], and I have _no fucking clue_ why. When I try to search the Win98 install CD for “\*.txt” files, it finds ONLY two (there’s a lot more than that), and then searches the C drive, no matter how I have the search options set up. Maybe there is a shortcut or something on there sending it to the C drive; I never tried to do this before or noticed the problem, really. And when I try searching for files that I can SEE are on the CD, the damn thing _stil_l doesn’t find them, and still searches the C drive. ???..Hmmm, You could try copying all the install CD onto your HD, just to search it that way. ~ ---

OK thank you guys. I got the drivers, let’s see if they work. Also, I downloaded the GIMP…there was a ton of stuff at [download.com](http://download.com) but I thought I’d go with the program that had at least one recommendation. THANKS!
