Ouch, keeping Nick out of jail must haunt him. Perhaps a nights separation might have cooled things off enough to avoid tragedy. The volatile atmosphere wasn’t going to go away. Predicting when it explodes is almost impossible. ---

I grew up with a brother who suffered from a severe form of paranoid schizophrenia. My family lived in fear from his unpredictable violence/rage. Drugs made it worse. Delusions and sometimes drugs increased the risk. He tried to kill me several times. Attacked my father often. He finally died violently by slicing himself with a knife in my father’s basement. I imagine the Reiners lived with unimaginable fear. And helplessness in the face of such erratic behavior. ---

Goddamn. Not only is it horribly tragic that a young mentally ill man killed his parents. But then it’s Rob Reiner … like, why Rob Reiner, you know, just sucks … and now two of my favorite celebrities - and it’s not like I’m leafing through US magazine on the daily, these just seem like two really cool people - Conan O’Brien and Bill Hader are suffering more than they should as well. This whole story makes me incredibly depressed. ---

It’s very sad all the way around, Conan had a party to put the ugliness of 2025 behind them all and the sadness came as a guest. The murders are awful, the suffering of the son is awful, the guilt of the friends and family who didn’t know what to do is awful; the hateful comments from the president and his supporters is awful. It’s just awful and sad and then awful some more. ---

I’m watching the DVD of _A Few Good Men_ and listening to Rob Reiner’s commentary. At one point during a softball practice scene, he notes that the thing he remembered most about it was that he had taken his six month old firstborn son to the set for the day. Yikes, I thought. But I looked it up and Nick hadn’t been born yet. I think we’ll find that a lot of innocent moments will be somewhat jarring in hindsight. ---

I was listening to a “best of” episode of a podcast and the segment had a moment when they were like “when Rob Reiner was here, he said…” and it was so jarring and I think completely coincidental. I’m sure that episode was in the can weeks ago just to throw something out during the holidays. It’s so sad. ---

Is the the future of tragedy where bad actors generate fake content for clicks in order to profit off of other people’s misfortune? Ack! ---
