Two police cars came to my house last night

Craziness ensues.

My wife got a call from the mother of my son’s friend. (MOMSF)

MOMSF was livid that the cops were called.

Blah, fucking blah.

My wife responded resplendently that if our son was implicated, then we would actually appreciate that someone called the cops on him.

The MOMSF doesn’t seem to get it.

Anyway, with our current laws this kid ain’t likely to get jail time or even a record. My thoughts are that, if he’s convicted, he’ll get community service. That and I would hope an order that his parents pay for the damages,

Fucking MOMSF!
ETA: Why do you think she cares that someone else ratted out on someone who isn’t even her kid? Makes no sense.

1> Not a good kid if he’s breaking into a Community Center and vandalizing it.
2> Yes, yes he does.

Show her this thread. She ought to know how many people think she’s an asshole.

Nahhhh, you see, it was just a boyish prank! With an axe. Just a bit of tomfoolery. Hacking into a building to steal stuff.

That other mom was a twit.

You should be even more proud that your son had the character to ignore that idiot and do what he thought was right. A lot of kids would defer to the adult even if the adult was wrong. The other mom is full of it, and it can only do her son good to hang out with your son.

The thing is, there are tons of people like that. It’s usually a little more sensible, though, being that they’re the relatives of said criminals. But you’ll still get convicts whose families are behind them 100%, and it’s just an unfortunate mishap, and he’s a good person, and blah-de-blah.

I can only assume that they just have no idea of the darker side of the criminal and refuse to believe the good son/kid they know is capable of it.

Are the police aware that the MOMSF knew of the crime and didn’t call the police? Can’t she be cited/arrested for that?

At this point, after a couple days, she calls up your wife to berate her? I’d guess it’s fear. it’s sounds like she’s maybe up to no good herself and is afraid your kid might have seen something. Just speculation of course.

Are you going to let your son hang out with boy again?

She implied an equivalence between a B&E and minor moving violation? Awesome.

Well, we’re not talking bank robbery here, so I doubt the police care whether or not she knew anything beforehand.

Yes. I hold no grudge against my son’s friend. I’m not about to tell my son who his friends can be. (Unless he befriends an axe-wielding thief.)

Yeah. In her eyes this is just “what boys do” apparently. You know: they wrestle, swear, burn ants with magnifying glasses, and also break into buildings, drown kittens, and commit arson. It’s all just boy stuff.

Keep an eye on the police reports in your newspaper. I’m sure they’ll mention this and if you’re lucky, it’ll list the approximate dollar amount of damage.

Now, personally, if mother was saying these things to me, I’d probably just make pointless remarks so she thinks I care “Yeah…mmmhmmm…okay…oh that’s awful…me too” type things. But it’ll be nice if you can say “Oh, by the way, did you see the paper, they did $2500 in damage to the community center” maybe add in “I’m glad they got caught, otherwise the taxpayers would have to pay for it”

Of course I’d be tempted to say “He had a fucking axe, there a pretty big difference between breaking into a building with a fucking axe and sneaking cigarettes behind the dairy queen” (my version of a minor issue that the parents can be the ones to deal with).

Sounds like MOSF is the sort of person who subscribes to a worldview in which the state (and by extension its agents) is an entity which exists not to protect the rights of its constituents, but only to coerce and punish. She’s…y’know…a moron.

If that’s the case, it’s not surprising that she would rather avoid drawing the attention of the police and simply have everyone’s taxes pay for the damages. Why turn those nice, churchgoing boys over to the cops, when her personal share of cleaning up their criminal activity is only a few pennies? Community center, fishing stocks, atmosphere-it’s all the same tragedy, different scale.

What a miserable twat.

Noone here seems to care about the 2 YOUNG BOYS involved. THEY WERE ONLY 16. A few pennies each is not much to pay to avoid the police ticking another box for conviction and sending these two down the wrong path, as let’s face it that’s all that’d happen. Best thing really would be for their parents to punish them, not get the rozza (can’t stand the police btw) involved. You’ll have to forgive me for CARING A LOT ABOUT 2 YOUNG BOYS.

Forgot to add this: Those two little snitches are gonna find themselves making enemies amongst their peers with attitudes like that

MOSF is that you?

If this is a parody, well done.

If this really is the mother of the son’s friend…not well done.

I do care about “2 YOUNG BOYS.” That’s why the police were called. Let’s send a very powerful message that this type of behaviour is not acceptable, is criminal, and is punishable by law. That being said, I fully suspect that if this is their first appearance in a court of law it will not result in a criminal conviction. My guess would be a suspended sentence with probation, community service, and possibly a fine to cover the damages. If in fact they do come from decent families then what are the chances they’ll want to repeat that mistake?

The boys were 15, I recently found out. Even if they are charged, they are charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act which means that they can have all records destroyed when they turn 18.

I’m obviously not a lawyer but that’s my interpretation based upon years of reading and watching news.

You are everything that’s wrong with America.

I’m confused too, the first post sounds like a joke, the second one sound kinda serious. IMO, this kid probably isn’t the one that’s telling on people for smoking behind the Diary Queen or or stealing a beer from Mom. But, I guess, if you plan to start breaking into places with an axe you should probably not hang out with him.

And, as I mentioned above, this is a fabulous way to stop a hobby before it turns into a lifestyle.
I got arrested for shoplifting when I was 15…never did it again…not once.
