I bought a Wii as a Christmas gift for my brother-in-law. It comes with the console/sensor/remote control/nunchuck and Mario Kart. I’ve played Wii but only the bowling and tennis. This used to come with pretty much all Wii consoles but the Mario Kart version doesn’t specifically mention it; before I buy the Wii Sports, does anybody know if this package already comes with it? (I’m assuming it doesn’t since it doesn’t say anything about it, but a friend said that sports comes with almost all of them- the salesperson didn’t know.) Also, does anybody know if Mario Kart can be played with just the remote and nunchuck, or do you need the steering wheel? ---

You can play Mario Kart with just a remote, a remote and nunchuck, or a steering wheel. I prefer the remote + nunchuck myself. I don’t know about Wii Sports. ---

If it’s the same bundle as[this one on Amazon](http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-Wii-White-Mario-Kart/dp/B004ZI8SQ6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322365040&sr=8-1), Wii Sports is not included.[Wii Sports Resort](http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wii-Sports-Resort-Remote-Plus/dp/B0045UBIFW/ref=sr_1_6?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1322365232&sr=1-6)includes a Wii Plus controller along with Bowling, Golf and another 10 games. I would definitely recommend this over buying Wii Sports. ---

To expand on this, the steering wheel is just a piece of plastic that the remote sits in. So playing it with just the remote is almost the exact same experience as playing with the wheel. ---

I personally loved using the wheel, and found it not only more comfortable, but also easier than just the Wii Remote by itself (particularly since it enlarges the B-button) as well as simply being more fun. ---

Wheel, definitely. It’s just a plastic base for the remote, but it’s much more natural in your hands when you’re trying to simulate driving. –Cliffy ---

When we got Mario Kart for our younger boy, the game came bundled with a steering wheel. We figured he’d want two so he could play against a friend or his big brother, so we got a cheap knock-off for the second wheel. There’s really very little difference - the Nintendo one is made of heavier, and presumably sturdier, plastic, but there are no functions on it worth mentioning. I’m glad we got two, as the boys have tried playing without the wheels and thought it felt odd. ---

Off topic, but sort of connected: Mario Kart 7 (for 3DS) comes out this Sunday, and I’m looking forward to it so much! One of the new features is the ability to make “Communities”… meaning that if someone wanted to start a SDMB Community, we could have our own little leader board and grudge matches together. Who’s in? 🙂 ---
