# Two shots today!

So I decided to get over my fear of rare paralytic diseases and get my very first flu shot today, in large part because of the trip I may take mentioned in another thread. I go to a local store’s pharmacy to get it done. On the form, I see a question that basically asks if it’d been over ten years since your last tetanus booster, and whether you want one. I thought, for some reason, it could all be delivered in one shot, so I say sure.
When I found out this was NOT the case, I was tempted to back out, as I am VERY needle-phobic. But I went through with it. Now I have one arm full of flu vaccine and another full of Td (I’m not sure why no one is recommending Tdp for more people these days, but maybe it’s not at that “panic point” yet).
As I type with somewhat achy arms, I tell myself, this is for my own good, this is for my own good…

Heck, when I was working on a project in Peru, I had to get immunized against 12 different diseases. I got five of the shots in one day.
I had to get:
Hepatitis A
Hepatitis B
Typhoid
Influenza
Tetanus
Diphtheria
Polio
Yellow Fever
Rabies
Measles/Mumps/Rubella, given in one shot
Some of these required boosters a few months later.
We also had to take medication against malaria.

I got a tetanus booster a few weeks ago myself (stepped on a nail.) It was a little tender for about two days. Think of it this way, you got two shots over with at once for the price of only one round of needle anxiety.

As part of the process of joining Peace Corps, I had to get around 25 shots in a ten week period. I did this whole process twice. My WHO card looks like an encyclopedia.
You get used to it.

You guys who are needle-phobic should see what happens if you go in for infertility treatment.
My poor wife has to get several shots every single day, for about ten weeks straight. And some of them are with big needles that go in the butt.
And this is like the fourth time we’ve been through it.

as a scuba diver i have to keep up my hep shots and my tetanus for obvious reasons and have never had any reactions to any of them.
last week i got the flu shot when i went in for my six-month blood workup. the next day i got sick.
go figure. ::rolls eyes::

When I was bitten by a rabid animal, I was thrilled to find out its no 30 shots in the stomach. Its about 11 or 12 shots over a period of weeks. The first seven were part of that first visit, all in major muscles groups, and one of the 7 was a tet. The two nurses lined up all the shots and then each grabbed one, shot me in the butt, had me flip, two in the thighs, back to one more in the butt, then one in each arm. They told me I would hurt the next day, but really only the tet arm was a bit achy. I was very glad that day I am not needlephobic, or I would have run screaming - and then started foaming.

I’m needle-phobic, and they always use big needles on me. I can’t look at them, but from how much they hurt, I estimate they are the size of my leg. Since I’m needle-phobic, I tense up and can’t relax when I’m getting a shot, which I’m sure does not help with pain.

How sick? I got the flu shot at a drug store. I have a softball sized bruise and a week later I’ve some minor “flu like symptoms”.
