# Twofer: Best free email and best mailing lists

Apologies if this has been done before, but a search for the thread title didn’t turn up any recent results.
Anyhoo, I’m graduating, which means no more free “.edu” email account. When I was in HS, I tried out a couple free email services but was annoyed by the amount of spam, unreliability, and the fact that they’d sometimes destroy my account if I went a few weeks without logging on.
So for those without school/business email, what free email services have you tried and would you recommend them.
Also, I get depressed when I check my email and I’ve got nothing but spam. I’d like to sign on to some mailing lists so that I’d have something interesting to read in the morning. Currently, I get the weekly “What’s New” article from the American Physical Society, which is usually some amusing editorials on science news. Anyone else have some mailing lists they recommmend, so I don’t feel like the only people who want to contact me are Nigerians looking for a partner in bankfraud and people who think my penis is too small ☹

I kid, I kid. I’ll use a friends email account to contact you. I talked to some people on another board and they seemed to think gmail was the way to go, so I’ll try it out, thanks.
Now if I just had some mailing lists to subscribe to, my life would be complete…
