I don’t know how many metal or Type O fans are present on the boards, so I’m not sure how many people care, but there are lots of reports that Peter Steele died on April 14th of heart failure. Assuming this is true, I’m so upset. Much more upset than I would expect to be at the death of someone I’ve only met once for a few minutes. My entire teens and early 20’s had his bass playing in the background, so many memories and in-jokes involve their music in some way. For some reason, that was the band that spoke to me more than anything. Through all my mess and emotional chaos, their music was a constant. I was young, nuts, always in love, and Peter was always speaking to me. Now I’m a married woman with two kids and Peter Steele is gone. ☹ ---

I’m hoping this is another hoax like the one back in 2005, but I’m afraid it isn’t this time. I’ve been a fan for 17 years now, seen him live half a dozen times. I even shook his hand once backstage, one of the few times I’ve felt small. I’m just incredibly sad right now. ---

I got a shock seeing the headline, which I read as “Peter O’Toole”. At least he has had a long, full life. Selfishly, I am disturbed at reading any men younger than myself dropping dead of heart failure. Condolences to Mr. Steele’s friends, family and fans. ---

That’s the thing about the hoaxes. He’s died before. If I remember right, they were in '00, and '05… both in May. I guess he was just a beat ahead this time. Seriously, I was a fan, I never met him, but I loved his music. I think 12 Black Rainbows is my favorite. Very rich mixture of tones. ---

My friend seemed to know him well, and she seems pretty distraught over it. I never really knew him or his music, but I do feel bad for her. Their Metal community seems to be a tight night one, and it’s always sad when they lose a member. ---
