# U.S Comes 2nd in Worldwide 'Hide and Seek' Championship (possible RO)

What is up with these cases? Is it just me or has there been a rash of these kinds of crimes recently? How many other poor sods are imprisoned, awaiting detection?
It must be all kinds of weird thinking that your daughter has been dead for 18 years only to discover she’s still alive. I really feel for the families of these victims as it must be extremely hard to cope with the reunion.
I guess this is probably RO and I apologise for the comedic slant on it but in some cases you really would cry if you couldn’t laugh about it.

Cynical, but probably there’s been regular discoveries of lost children going on for the last several decades, but recently the media discovered that these stories interest a lot of readers, so they’re putting them more prominent as they appear.

To be honest you are probably right it just _seems_ like this is happening more and more.
It seems barmy to me that _nobody_ seems to notice that there are people kept hostage for so long without anyone becoming suspicious of it.
I did however find it quite ‘funny’ that he took her along to his parole meeting. Douchbag.

Exactly! I think that these ‘enablers’ are _almost_ as bad as the perps. I know it’s a touch sexist but I always expect women to be more ‘nurturing’ and therefore tolerate this sort of behaviour less - it always blows my mind when you hear of women supporting this kind of behaviour. There is a famous case in Britain (the ‘Baby P’ incident) where a child who was tortured to death told her partner (the abuser) to ‘try to stop’ when she caught him sexually abusing her two year old son. I almost find this worse than his actions because he may be mentally ill or something but that’s her fucking child! It brings me almost to tears thinking about how unloved that poor child was…

I read up on it to figure it out. Looks like in Fritl’s case the wife plauseably could claim innocence (controlling/dominearing husband, daughter could have ran away to a sect only to leave her children on their doorstep, they live in a large apartment complex whose basement is off limits and was wired by him with tight security, hidden passage and sound proof walls).
In the Garrido’s case it looks like the wife was in on the rape.
All kinds of fucked up.

Oh for crap’s sake. I was going to use this as a thought experiment in [this other pit thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=529741) and basically say that for a meat-eater to go onto a vegetarian board to “debate” them is rubbing their noses in what they do not want to do (kill for pleasure) in much the same way that going into a New Mommies forum to “debate” them over your preference to kill babies for your own pleasure is similarly abusive and disgusting. My point was going to include “and you typically don’t see the pervert pushing his viewpoint out to other people like it’s “one side” of the story.”
