Try HEB-Plus in Mission or HEB @ 10th/Trenton. I’ll check later in the week. I know for sure they have Marmite, but it seems like I’ve seen Vegemite, too. Might also try Feldman’s Market. ---

Since the question’s largely been answered, if you don’t mind a slight hijack: I’ve never tasted Vegemite. How would you describe it to somebody who’s never had it? (I have heard it’s an ‘acquired’ taste, or at least one that a lot of people can’t stand.) ---

I have vegemite on my christmas list along with spicy mango chutney. I know there are places online to order it, but I have not beeen able to find it in any local grocery stores. ---

It tastes to me much like a beef buillon cube smells. It works somehow. I can see people finding it too strong, but it’s not some bizarre alien flavor that simply cannot be appreciated if one didn’t grow up with it. It’s basically pure [umami](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umami). Just as you might not eat straight powdered sugar but love to sprinkle some on French toast, and just as you might not drink straight lemon juice but love to squirt lemon into iced tea – the umami flavor of Vegemite can be considered in the same way. A little goes a long way – maybe a quarter teaspoon is enough for an average piece of toast. Buttering the toast before adding Vegemite makes for a pleasantly milder-tasting end product IMHO. ---
