I believe that the _Belgrano_ was the former USS _Phoenix_, actually. And now I’m hitting myself for not thinking of this sooner.

1. Richard Nixon, then VP, and Soviet leader Nikita Khruschev, during a trade show in Moscow.
…
2. A prolonged failure of the audio feed, and Ford’s gaffe that Poland was not under Soviet domination.
3. Lloyd Bentsen to Dan Quayle, 1988 VP debate.
4. Quemoy and Matsu, off the coast of China.
5. Don’t know, but I’ve numbered it for later reference.

Answers to more expired questions:

1. Author’s Row, in Concord, MA, refers to what?

Henry David Thoreau, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Louisa May Alcott are all buried in close proximity to each other within Concord’s cemetery. I can’t recall if they’re all in a row, as the name implies, but they’re all very close to each other.

1. What was recently (5 year window, here) recovered off the wreck of a ship similar to that referenced in 651?

A 48 star flag was recovered from one of the gunships sunk off the Korean coast.

1. A sister ship of the vessel in 663 was refitted in the post WWI years to become the USS _Langley_. What was her pre-refit name?

USS _Jupiter_.

1. What USN WWII vessel had a couple of nicknames that were forbidden, on pain of being kicked off the crew, by that vessel’s captain?

USS _Sailfish_

1. Why did the captain in 665. care so much about these nicknames?

Well, he was serving on the only USN sub to continue service after failing to make it’s surface to dive ratio equal one. The USS _Sailfish_ was what the USS _Squalus_ was renamed after she sank and killed half her crew. The two nicknames I’m aware of that her captain objected to were “_Squalus_,” and “_Squailfish_.”
