I’m confused. Has **Lobsang** never read any previous thread about banning\* or did/does he think that he’s a special case? (\*Because they _all_ get closed with a comment that threads on the subject attract the wrong crowd.) ---

I’m more concerned that **Lobsang** seems unaware of the “don’t open another thread on a topic of yours which has been recently closed” rule - no matter WHAT the topic was or in WHICH forum it was posted. ---

It is the phrase used for a nuclear core meltdown. The (humorous?) idea being the core will burn down through the earh and come out in China. There was also a film of the same title made in the 80s (I think) starring Michael Douglas, Jane Fonda, and Jack Lemmon dealing with nuke power plant melting down. TV ---

Now for my response to he OP. **Lobsang** , while train wrecks in the guise of posters self-distructing can be extremely entertaining, it is not the primary purpose of this board. The mods and admins and some of the older members have found that to dwell on those train wrecks advances nothing other than a downward spiral of angst. They don’t see any purpose, other than to create more bad feelings on the board (among/between certain members) to letting certain trains of thought continue. They have seen it happen before and they would just as soon not see it happen again. If they at times seem to be quick on the draw when closing a thread - it might be because they are trying to maintain a bit of harmony at a somewhat unharmonious time. None of us likes to have a thread closed, but it has happened to most of us and most of us got pretty good satisfaction on why and an explanation on how to rephrase or reshape the original thought if it was worth pursuing by simply emailing the mod in question. Really, there is nothing lost in doing that. Is there? If you do not get a satisfactory response, you can always shoot yourself in the foot by insulting the admins, mods, membership or even Cecil himself later. TV ---

since a banned poster often post under different user names it will skew the results of your survey since you registered in march of 2002 you wouldn’t know who most of them are anyways so if your writing a book about SDMB you better skip the chapter about banned posters ---

As I understand it, a Libertarian is free to be compassionate and merciful if he feels the moral call to be so, but insists that government has no “right” to require him so to do, or to take his money in order that it corporately may be compassionate and merciful. Have I got that right, Lib.? ---
