# Ugliest Car Ever!

The Aztek (sp!) is laugh-so-hard-you-pee-your-pants ugly. The early 1980s Chevy [Citation](http://www.americanmuscleonline.com/images/1985%20Chevy%20Citation/IMAG0014.JPG) is just stone depressing. Everything about it bespeaks a recession-raddled industry barely even trying anymore, and an automaker that had been down so long it really did look like up to them.

The first time I ever saw an Aztek, I honest-to-God burst out laughing.
Until another car can make me spontaneously guffaw, I’ll have to keep it on top of my ugliest car list.

Ahhh, [this](http://www.edmunds.com/new/2005/scion/xb/100394908/photogallery.html?pg_type=Wagon&imgsrc=%2Fpictures%2FVEHICLE%2F2003%2FScion%2F100076289%2F022088-T.jpg) car. Yes, I have seen one or, rather, was amused by one. Some teen was trying to haul ass through our neighborhood in it and doing a very poor job. Even as it negotiated sharp curves it stayed perfectly upright, never swaying, and made almost no noise. It’s uncharacteristic movement and apparent lack of hp made me involuntarily chuckle.

Wow. Both excellent nominees to the list of fuglies.
I kinda have a soft-spot for the Thing, though. It’s so utilitarian-boxy that it really looks like it was _meant_ for something that necessitated its ugliness.

The Aztek is it. Some jackass in Detroit really believe that this car was so revolutionary that it would bring GM’s market share back. What a waste of some good quality engineers.
And they made it available in such beautiful car colors, yellow, orange, olive. Ugh!

As possibly the only Doper who ever actually owned a Gremlin (1972 model, dark green) I feel compelled to stick up for it. The front end was the same as the AMC Hornet – unassuming and plain, but not ugly. The rear end was a basic hatchback style, except you couldn’t actually open the hatch (only the rear window opened.) The overall design was not so much ugly as unfinished.
There were plenty of uglier cars. My top (bottom?) pick is the Chevrolet Chevette and Pontiac T1000.

I’d take it over the Renault [Megane](http://www.pictures-of-cars.com/Specifications/..%5Cimages%5CRenault-Megane.jpg).
The [Subaru Baja](http://www.geocities.co.jp/HeartLand-Yurinoki/6994/subaru_baja.jpg) is pretty damn ugly too. Looks exactly like an Outback with the wagon top removed and an explosion of cladding added…which is exactly what is is.

When I saw the title of this thread I immediately thought “Pontiac Aztec”, especially the pea-green version. Somebody had to lose a job over that debacle.
For sheer stupidity, I’d nominate the H2. A zillion pounds curb-weight and an underpowered engine.
The Scion and the Element don’t bother me, they’re clearly targeted towards a demo other than me, and I can respect that. The Aztec is just has FUBAR written all over it and it makes me question the judgement of people who own one. Should they be allowed to vote? :dubious:

I always thought the Aztec looked like two different cars stuck together. They sliced the tops off both cars and put the wrong top on the wrong bottom. I can only imagine how ugly the other car would be.

That’s it! They would look perfect parked next to the family car in Calvin & Hobbes! They’re just so clunky and home-made looking, as though Geppetto whittled Pinocchio a car for his 16th birthday. A really _lame_ whittled car. Possibly after having had a stroke on top of too many tequila shots.
I have an ugly car nominee, but I don’t know what they’re called. We’re all too busy rolling around on the ground, laughing over someone having bought one of the damned things, that nobody’s caught the name. They look like somebody shortened a hearse and then squished the top all short. Not just ugly, but stoopid.
Also, my first car was a very used Ford Maverick. Yes, it was butt-ugly but you could fit a million people in it and it hauled tushy, vrooooom!

Hey hey hey now…
I owned a Pacer in 1976-1978. Roomiest car I ever owned. I actually slept in that car on campouts and stretched out my 6’ 7" frame. I was very comfortable. And it wasn’t even a wagon!

Are you possibly thinking of the [Dodge Magnum](http://www.autogaleria.pl/tapety/img/dodge/dodge_magnum_2005_02_m.jpg)? If so, shame on you. That’s one of the better looking cars Chrysler has ever put out.
Then again, you’re talking to the guy who thought the Pacer was good looking, so take it for what it’s worth.

That’s it! Finally a name is put to the fugly. Best looking car Chrysler ever put out, huh? Damning with faint praise is a phrase that comes to mind.
Okay, okay **Rico** , in your linked picture it looks half-way decent, but in person, ick-a-doodle. I _am_ terribly picky-- it takes a car [this](http://www.car-nection.com/jagbase/jxk140p.htm) pretty before my heart goes pitter pat. If you scroll down, the one I want when I win the lottery is the 1957 XK140 DHC model in a dark red.

Yep, the **Renault Migrane** does it for me - instant headache. Just dreadful.
