I agree that the Scion xA and XB are some fugly cars, but the [Scion tC](http://home.comcast.net/~jsmartin1300/iiptc.jpg) isnāt a bad looking car. I test drove one before I bought my last car and while I ultiamtely went for something a little bigger, the tC is good looking and seemingly had a pretty good performance and creature comforts / cost ratio.

HEY, bud, we love our Scion xA! Do you know the mileage that thing gets, huh? And how roomy it is? And how many options it comes with? And how reasonably priced it is? HUH? Do ya?!
In all seriousness, we get a lot of compliments on it. A **lot** of people mistake it for a Mini Cooper.

I canāt believe SOMEONE at Pontiac didnāt say āIām sorry, but thatās really ugly.ā
The first time I ever saw an Element I had to pull up next to it because I wanted to see if Laurel and Hardy were driving it.
I think some designer at Honda went home to his 4 year old and said āI need a new idea for a car, can you draw me one?ā
Then someone at Scion tried to make an Element out of LEGO.

In Europe, yes Renault Megane.
When I was visiting the US the most ugly cars I saw were those things that look like futuristic London cabs. But in a really bad way. Donāt know what you call 'm but those are hideous.

I believe we are currently in something of a golden age for vehicular ugliness. Most Chevy, Ford and Chrysler sedans; clock stoppers one and all (well, actually I kind of like the aggressive blockiness of the 300 and Magnum, but the new Charger is just flat goofy-looking). Every single āfull-sizedā pickup truck on the market today. Many Toyota sedans; somehow insufferably bland and offensively ugly at the same time. Even Honda seems to have lost its way somewhat. But the current Mount Olympus of ugly are Chris Bangle-styled BMWs; I love that youāve gotta pay a significant premium to get that elite sort of real, sophisticated German-crafted ugliness that the lesser brands strive for but canāt seem to achieve.

Iām guessing you are referring to the [Chrysler PT Cruiser](http://www.ptcruiserworld.com/gallery/RetroEra/86848.jpg). And they sell 'em in Europe, too. Not, you know, a lotā¦
My official vote, however, goes to the final versions of the Pontiac Firebird and Chevrolet Camaro, which despite several previous generations of mostly decent designs, were absolute disasters. GM, the F-bodies didnāt stop selling because nobody wanted muscle cars, itās because nobody wanted muscle cars that looked like _that_. Well, that and the appalling build quality.

Yes! Thatās that thing. Ew. The fact that it is trying to do a take on London cabs (which are lovely IMO) and fails so miserably gets it bonus ugly points.

The form and shape of the Aztec is good enough for the [Audi A2](http://www.audi.com/etc/medialib/cms4imp/audi/FullScreen.Par.1325.Image.jpg). Pontiac just managed to make it as ugly as possible with the front end and gobs oāplastic crap.
I like the Renault Megane though

Heh. Iāve never heard that the PT Cruiser was trying to emulate London cabs, to be honest. The explanation Iāve heard is that the designers wanted to do a modern take on retro American cars.

Itās basically a German version of the Jeep, isnāt it? The Jeep Wrangler is equally boxy. So is the more upscale
Boxy is good. I wish I still had my old Volvo 240 wagon.

Not quite. It was never intended to be imported in the US. IIRC, a California VW dealer was on a tour of a Mexican VW plant in the early 70ās saw the Thing being built and, not recognizing it, asked when they would available for sale in the US. When he was told the car was not going to be available, he got them to change their minds. They were sold here for only three years: 1973 - 75.

The Thing is actually the civilian version of the German Kubelwagen from World War II, their equivalent of the American Jeep.

As the owner of a 2002 Aztek, I disagree with the āuglyā label. I pity you poor brainwashed fools who actually prefer anonymity over style.
Spend endless wasted hours searching for your cookie-cutter SUV or Camry/Accord clone in the supermarket parking lot. Iāll be home putting my groceries away while youāre still looking for whichever ātastefulā beige heap lights up when you press your keyfob.
