I like almost all of the hatchback subcompacts in this thread, the Gremlins, Pacers, etc. If I were to ever get a project car, it would probably be a Dodge Shelby GLH/GLHS. I’m not ashamed to admit that I owned several cars mentioned here: the AMC Gremlin, Dodge Colt Vista, Ford Fairmont, 1990s-era Ford Taurus. I got a great deal on every one of them, and they all suited my needs at that particular time. My daughter seems to have inherited my complete disregard for style. Her first car was an uninspired Hyundai Elantra, and when it died, she ended up with (and still drives) a Scion IQ. Gremlins are fine. But it’s easier to not feed them after midnight than it is to avoid sunlight. ---

I like the look of Beetles and I think the 2CV is stylish. Styling. Stylistically okay. It needs a glimmery paint job to make it into ranks of Auto Show antipathy. ---

Maybe I’m weird but I’m hard pressed to call any car ugly. Weird, maybe, but not ugly. And I _love_ Gremlins. My first two vehicles were Gremlins, wish I still had them. mmm ---

I thought it was easy to make Gremlins multiply? So _that’s_ why they had trouble getting to Solla Sallew (spelling may reflect large time lapse between consulting source). ---

Its unique feature was the rear-facing bench seat, which meant passengers could watch in horror as traffic threatened to rear-end this rolling roadblock of a car. Soon it became clear — “Ach Du Lieber!” — that the Janus was a disaster, coming or going. ---

I kinda liked the look of the Cube. It was weird in a cute way, and that wrap-around rear window looked as if it gave you an excellent field of view. ---

Some friends of mine had one of those. They loved it because it had 3 rows of seating in it and a substantial cargo space. This was useful if you were hauling yourselves (a couple) and a friend or two plus gear for a week’s camping at Pennsic. ---
