Uh, Marley...

Frog March!

You wouldn’t, would you, Inspector Javert?

It is because I have been here as long as I have that I was so surprised by your action. I really didn’t think I ran afoul of GD rules. I know worse has been done. If i had the time, I’d comb GD for the past few months for similar posts with similar references. But at the very least, it seems a Mod Note was in order, not a Warning. It’s a bit rare that someone gets a full-on Warning right off the bat. What do you think was accomplished by a Warning that wouldn’t have been equally well served by a Mod Note? If you had admonished me and let me know that I was going over the line and I continued along those same lines, fine, that merits a Warning. Why the Warning right out of the box. Surely worse has been offered in GD and the person received something less than a Warning. That’s what should have happened here. It’s not as if I violated the GD rules is a flagrant way, calling a poster any number of names that would, indeed, have reasonably merited a Warning right off.

So, I request, again that you reduce the Warning to a Note. This seems to be little to ask of you. and costs you nothing. You stopped the behavior you felt was over the line and will have given me a Mod Note. Easy.

This isn’t a technical issue. Downgrading the warning to a note would be easy, but since I think the warning was deserved, I’m still not going to do it. I don’t agree with your premise here. We sometimes give notes before going to warnings, but not always. When I’m deciding if I am going to give a warning or a note, I’ll consider the actual posts and the poster. Like I said, I thought your description of BrainGlutton’s “behavior” were abusive and totally inappropriate for the forum, and I felt that as a longtime poster, you should have known that you can describe posts that way in the Pit and not in GD. I am sure you would be offended if someone said you’d posted “a lazy heap of dung” and that you were “inject[ing] 20 fucking topics at once” to the thread. Whether I give you a note or a warning the outcome is the same: if you don’t do it again, it’s not a big deal.

Magellan, you were very clearly insulting BG not his argument and to claim otherwise is intellectually dishonest.

I should add that while I respect BG and have nothing against him, we’ve butted heads on occasion and I think he has a tendency to think there are clear answers on subjects where there are none, so it’s not like I’m someone who’d be prejudiced in his favor.

Yeah, the ol’ “if you don’t do it again it’s not a big deal”. Now there are Warnings or admonishments I, or others, received that were solidly justified as meriting such. There are also those that could have gone either way. And still others, like this one, should have either been a no-call or a Mod Note. And the trouble with your “if you don’t do it again it’s not a big deal”, is that down the road if there’s another bad call from you, you can look back and say, we’ll look you had this other Warning, without sharing an appreciation for how ill-conceived and questionable it was. But you know what, fuck it. Take pleasure in your heavy-handed partisan modding. You’re like the small-town cop that always gives the ticket…because he can.

I guess I’ll just have to take solace in the fact that Iv’e exposed yet another example as to why you absolutely suck as a moderator.

I bid you good day, Officer Fife.

Don’t leave without your Neosporin, St. Sebastian!

Oh, draaaaama.

All this excitement. I’ve got shpilkes in my genechtagazoink.

Seemed like a fine call to me. As for your defenses, they seem to fall into the categories of “But it’s the TROOF!” and “Other people are doing it!” Were it my board, either of those defenses for poor behavior would be insta-bans.

Help! Help! Magellan01 is being oppressed! Come see the violence inherent in the system!
